What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Ok, I'm really struggling with this. I had thought one of the authors was Larry Niven or J Poournelle but I've checked their lists out on Fantastic Fiction and I'm not finding anything even vaguely reminiscent.

I really have the slightest of memories of these books (there were two). I know they had titles that struck me - back i the 80's - as somewhat more intellectual than the usual run of fantasy; they were definitely more fantasy than sci-fi - the alternative world they ended up in had magic. It was slightly fringe stuff for the UK, in the early days of fantasy fiction appearing in run of the mill bookshops and stationers. I'm pretty there were two main characters, both white male and I think the cover art may have shown at least one of them wearing a suit. Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Soooo...how do I change this to solved? Just add 'solved' to the Title?

Next to the title of the thread, there should be an "edit" button; in addition to adding "Solved" to the title, please change the folder the thread is in to the "Adult Fiction: Solved" folder and add "Complete Compleat Enchanter" in the space called "This Thread is About"
