Happy voting! Please cast your votes by 12 pm EST on 05/23.

Sushicat | 843 comments Voted! I've grown out of one of these tags, love one and find it way too easy, don't normally care much for the last one but found some interesting books on the list, so that's what I voted for.

Ok, you are scaring me. If I'm guessing right from your clues.

(Ok, I peeked, and I was totally wrong. Funny.)

message 4: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) I voted. I really like one of the tags, another one is fine, but I hate the third! Although it's just on principle, not because I've actually read and disliked any fitting book, lol!

message 5: by Susie (new)

Susie Hmmm. I have read a lot of the suspense and coming of age lists, so logic would dictate...

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

2 would fit with my other challenges, the other... not so much!

message 7: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments These are GREAT choices! I have plenty for any of them and can enjoy any genre on the beach in the sun!

message 8: by annapi (new)

annapi | 5505 comments Voted. I could go with any of them.

message 9: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12059 comments This requires some thought.

message 10: by Karin (new)

Karin | 9214 comments Like Marina, I hate one of the choices (not sure if it's the same one), another is okay and I could work with it, but I voted for my favourite one.

message 11: by Jeremiah (new)

Jeremiah Cunningham | 717 comments Voted on the basis of wanting to read one particular book, might as well get a tag it fits.

message 12: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12914 comments Seriously grappled with whether or not to vote out of my comfort zone or not. Voted...

message 13: by Joi (new)

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments I could go with any of these. Two of them (the same two that we're all talking about, lol) I read all the time anyway so wouldn't be a stretch.

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments Y'all, if you choose wisely then we could all read Twilight together! SQUEEE!!! ;)

I was JUST talking to some friends Saturday night about summer reading and found myself contemplating a fourth read of this AMAZING SERIES.

I love your enthusiasm Nicole :-). The tag you are obviously rooting for is the only one we haven't done before which makes me lean towards it a bit. I'm not sure how I'm voting because I'm fine with any of the three tags.

message 19: by Susie (new)

Susie I seriously considered the tag we're all talking about, but I just can't!

message 20: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12914 comments I never grappled with that one... I thought even one of the other two was more out of my usual than the other

Me, too!

message 22: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 681 comments Just a heads up Nicole, Twilight actually falls under all three genres ;)

(though I personally think suspense is a stretch ...)

Agreed...

but since it fits any tag, NIcole can read it regardless :).

LOL!

message 25: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 11678 comments I have a favourite of the three and a least favourite, but even that will be fine. I'll be ok with any of them.

message 26: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12059 comments Voted. Went with my favorite of the three. Two, I like, but the third is something unappealing to me.

message 27: by Ladyslott (new)

Ladyslott | 1880 comments I have one book that actually will fit all three tags. So vote away, I know what I'm reading.

message 28: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12914 comments so curious what that book will turn out to be?

message 29: by Denizen (new)

Denizen (den13) | 1138 comments One deal breaker and no real preference between the other two. I'm sitting out.

message 30: by Kimber (new)

Kimber (kimberwolf) | 845 comments I have multiple options for all of these tags. I voted for the one that sounds the most appealing to me right now, but will be happy to read from any of them.

Maria | 4 comments I'm excited - my first time voting and being active. Be gentle folks. Ha!

message 32: by Jen (new)

Jen | 1545 comments I"m not voting this round. I prefer the 2 others over paranormal romance but I have options for any of them and would rather save points for the next time we have a year tag that I can vote against :)

Sushicat | 843 comments Jen wrote: "....would rather save points for the next time we have a year tag that I can vote against :)"

Everybody has one point for voting that is neither debited nor credited to your point account. I always vote, but use additional points only in case of dire need - like the next time a year tag comes along ;-)

message 34: by Susie (new)

Susie Or we're trying to avoid paranormal romance? ;-)

message 35: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12914 comments I get curious how people vote... Is the pull more to get a ton of books off one's TBR, or is it to challenge oneself in an area one might not have normally picked? With the exception of Ireland, which I likely voted for, I have found that even the tags that have initially displeased me have stretched me. And that I have picked up some wonderful things that I never would have. But the pull to knock like ten books of the ever-expanding TBR? What's a gal to do? Do you guys vote against your instincts? Comfort zone vs expansion - how do you fly?

message 36: by Susie (new)

Susie I try to choose tags that have books that I actually want to read, and more than one book is a deciding factor too. I do like to stretch myself, but some tags are too much of a stretch! I don't want to spend the month reading two and three star books. I suppose I'm closer to the 'knock books off the TBR' category than the 'stretch myself' category.

message 37: by Cora (new)

Cora (corareading) | 1921 comments I do a little of both. Personally this month I went with TBR because there have been a handful of books that have been calling to me for the past three months that I have put off in order to read for the monthly tag (yes I have a TBR full of books that weren't bestsellers). However, after a few months of reading off the TBR I am usually in mood to challenge myself and will avoid the "easy for me" tags in the vote.

True, I forgot about the free vote.

Susie wrote: " I do like to stretch myself, but some tags are too much of a stretch! "

I'm in line with Susie, in voting. I like to stretch myself, but I also consider what I would enjoy reading and since there was one which I never read anymore, I didn't vote for it and if it is chosen I will have to obtain something new.. which I hope to avoid.

message 40: by Jen (new)

Jen | 1545 comments I see PBT as a group that will let me expand/broaden my reading so I almost always pick based on tags that push me to think beyond my usual reading choices. I don't assume that a tag that doesn't apoeal to me will mean I will hate the books I read for the tag. In fact some of my favorite books have been for tags I dreaded.

Part of the fun of PBT (for me) is the creative thinking that goes into picking good books for a hard tag and seeing what others come up with. I get bored when the tag is too broad or just an extension of what I'm already ready. And I am ashamed to admit that I don't really check in or read reviews for these broad months - I'll just read the reviews on my homepage.

message 41: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 681 comments Every year, I set annual reading goals that push me out of my comfort zone and I usually vote for monthly tags that help me reach those goals. Example: This month I voted solely because I have one book tagged "true crime" that falls under the "suspense" genre. I never read true crime, but I purposefully chose that genre as one of my PBT stairs for that reason.

True, sometimes I end up reading a couple of mediocre books in a row, but I've found some gems too! I never read non-fiction before PBT challenged us to do so, and last year one of my top ten books was off our 100 NF list! Now I personally endeavor to read 6 NF books off the 100 list every year! :)

PS - The true crime book I was speaking of, is also on our NF list ;)

message 42: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments I always root for the tags that will stretch me. With so many books to choose from I not only like to read something new and different, but finding the exact book I want to read is part of the fun!

If it is truly a tag that I do not think I will like (ahem, looking back a few years to poetry) then I have the flexibility to pick something short.

But, I almost always read for the tag....though I need to get moving on my 2004 read!

That's exactly what I do, too.

message 45: by Karin (new)

Karin | 9214 comments It varies for me on why I choose a vote. Sometimes there is a tag I avoid like the plague, so I will vote for something else. Many times it's because there's a tag I'd like to read the best, either because I have books on my tbr or to try something different (often I do have books on my tbr). On Shelfari it was far easier to check the tag against my tbr than it is here because I'd search 2 tags together. Also, it made it easier to find books I could recommend by taking the winning tag and searching it along with my personal tag (although it's not on all books I've read since I started that later when I read about someone else doing a personal tag/shelf).

My sentiments exactly. I have stretched a lot over the years, grown from one genre to another, and am now focused on reading what I please. Usually, I can find something high on my TBR that works with the chosen tag (although paranormal romance may be the tag that makes a lie of that statement;-/

Yours is the closest to how I choose a tag. I'd rather read for poetry (which I haven't read since Highschool) or paranormal romance (which is the least preferred for this month and I've pretty much overdosed on), than for a broad tag such as a year or bestseller. Like you, I miss the fun of discovery that comes with the challenge of a narrow tag. Also, I try to read as close to the spirit of the tag and the duds are few, since this group comes up with great recommendations.

Btw - I threw the three tags into a tagmash at LibraryThing and had a fit of laughter. Next to the expected Twilight and Hunger Games series, it included the Lord of the Ring series as well as the Dark Materials trilogy.

message 50: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9280 comments What a fascinating discussion of how people vote!

I'm basically nearly always in the camp of hoping for a more narrow tag because I also like the creative challenge of finding a title that both fits and that I want to read. However, I do have some broad ones that are favorites, and if they are up against a narrow one that seems really awful to me (star wars?), then I silently cheer for the one I love.

Honestly, I initially founded the group with the idea of stretching my own horizons, and I feel that even though probably half the tags are broad, I do think it has really changed the way I read and helped me to become a much more literary reader. It probably is all of your reviews that have made that happen rather than the tags themselves, but that seems totally fine!
