Being completely aware of reality, as well as your ability to affect it, is true self-enlightenment. This is how you fight off everything from everyday stress to mental illness.

The field of mental health is broken, and many people wonder how to fix it. The answer may surprise you. We as a people have two choices in life: keep waiting for someone else to fix our problems institutionally, or fix our problems ourselves socially.

The first thing we must do is take responsibility for our own lives, everything good and bad in it. Because the second we take responsibility for our own lives, we can begin to change them however we see fit; we will see no walls or barriers on who we want to become, and what we want to do. And from there we can spread that change to others.

This is the core message of State the Mind Free the Self.

I would be interested in hearing your feedback to this sort of idea, whether you read the book or not.

Steven | 1 comments Hi Royce,

My own belief is that to fix the mind, work on the soul. To fix the soul, work on the mind. Get these two in balance and the body will follow suit.

Most mental health practice in western society involves messing around with chemicals in the brain - therefore they target the symptom, not the cause.

I truly believe that the soul provides all the feedback we need to be content, happy and worthy human beings - all we need do is listen to it.

Good point. And when you try to tell the truth and someone says shut up, they're really telling you to shut your soul.
