Morgan | 18 comments I watched Persuasion at a friend's house last night, so I'll probably pick that for a classic, but as for the rest, I have no idea. Especially since I actually have a contemporary out from the library now, but can't go out of order.

Classic: The Circular Staircase

Fantasy: The Trumpet of the Swan

Contemporary: Hope Harbor

Indie: The Ranch Next Door and Other Stories

Non-fiction: What to Do When You Don't Know What to Do

1901-2000: (So many in this category! Maybe...) A Lady Unrivaled

1801-1900: A Haven on Orchard Lane

1701-1800: Burning Sky

1601-1700: A Place in His Heart

1501-1600: ?

message 7: by Lydia (new)

Lydia Therese (susanthegentle) Classic -- Daddy-Long-Legs
Sci-fi -- Out of the Silent Planet
Contemporary -- The Selection
Indie -- Martin Hospitality
Nonfiction -- Leonard
1901-2000 -- Chasing Jupiter
1801-1900 -- A Spy's Devotion
1701-1800 --
1601-1700 -- The Witch of Blackbird Pond
1501-1600 --

These are all coming from my TBR except Blackbird Pond, which is so amazing that I need to re-read it anyway. I still need book for 1701-1800 and 1501-1600, so I'll update this when I find them! ;)

Wow! Y'all are so good at thinking ahead! XD I still haven't figured out the first category. :D

message 10: by Hanna (new)

Hanna I'm thinking of the first category... and I'm leaning toward The Hound of the Baskervilles- assuming we have it. ;)

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

For the first category, I'm thinking of either Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights. I love Gothic romance / mystery and I don't know why. :P

Hanna Hanna wrote: "I'm thinking of the first category... and I'm leaning toward The Hound of the Baskervilles- assuming we have it. ;)"

Check that- I'm going to read The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes first, since that's the first one to read. And we have it, which I didn't know. :P I'm pretty sure that counts as a classic, but I thought I'd just say so, so I have have assurance. ;)

Yep! He's been a novelist for years before starting to write audio drama scripts.

message 22: by E.F. (new)

E.F. Buckles Classic -- "Sense and Sensibility" by Jane Austen
Fantasy -- Either "The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making" or a reread of "Starflower" by Anne Elisabeth Stengl. Whichever I get to first.
Contemporary -- "Enjoy the Poodle Skirt" by Kate Willis
Indie -- *needs to get better about marking which authors are indie on her bookshelves* "The Key to the Chains" by Allison Tebo
Nonfiction -- ???
1901-2000 -- "Anne of the Island" by L. M. Montgomery
1801-1900 -- ???
1701-1800 -- ???
1601-1700 -- ???
1501-1600 -- ???

I need to read 2, 4, or 8 books to be able to enter to win the books I don't already own in physical form *pats her pretty copy of London in the Dark* At least I assume I won't own prize 1, but I guess I'll have to wait and see what it is when it gets decided. 10 books is sooo not happening in 3 months at the rate I read! Kinda don't think 8 is happening either since I already read the two non-fiction books I got to read this year, I don't know what else to for that and I don't see myself getting that far, anyway. It'll be fun to get as far as I can, though. :)

message 23: by Tarissa (new)

Tarissa (inthebookcase) | 11 comments I'm thinking about reading The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammett for my classic. It was published in the 1930's, and there are several black & white Thin Man movies made right after that (starring William Powell and Myrna Loy).

Sense and Sensibility is so awesome! I read/listened to it (yes, it was indeed both, I switched back and forth as I felt like it) last year and absolutely loved it. And Anne of the Island is a childhood favorite. All of the Anne books are so good.

Cool! My brother thought that was the first one I was supposed to read, but then my other brother disagreed. ;)

message 27: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 18 comments It isn't the first one written (that's A Study in Scarlet), but he didn't really write in chronological order. I haven't read The Hound of the Baskervilles, but my sister really loves it. It's one of those books she's constantly telling me to read, along with The Robe.

It's set during World War I. A sad, but sweet story.

And apologies everyone for any typos, I still don't have my computer so i have to use my phone.

Erudessa Aranduriel | 91 comments Okay, I have finished my first two categories.

Classic - Pippi Longstocking (new read)
Sci-fi/Fantasy - Dearest by Alethea Kontis (new read)

Now I just have to find a Contemporary. You wouldn't think that would be so hard with as much as I like reading (clean) chick lit.
