1930s: Double Indemnity, by James N. Cain
1940s:Dark Passage, by David Goodis
1950s
1960s
1970s
1980s
1990s
2000s
2010s

Don't know any of those, except Double Indemnity (which you can use for the book to screen, of course).

on second thought maybe I have heard of Dark Passage.

I read really obscure sh*t.

Dark Passage was also a movie -- Bogie and Bacall, I do believe!

Bill I have read an Anthony Berkely before (The Poisoned Chocolate Case), which I enjoyed very much and one under his pseudonym of Francis Iles (Malice Aforethought), which was quite excellent. I hope you enjoy your choice. The other authors are all new to me; well, I've heard of Mary Robers Reinhart, but that's about it.. Enjoy.

I have been buying books for years -- yard sales, used bookstores, what have you, and they've been neglected, the poor things! So this is a great reason to pull them off the shelves & actually read them. Mary Roberts Rinehart has one book I absolutely love called The Album -- which I reread every now & then.

well, definitely don't start with The After House. Try The Album or The Man in Lower Ten.
