Have you noticed that the price of e-books has increased since the SA government started charging VAT to Amazon? Amazon has passed the charge onto its customers. My books that I priced on Amazon at $0.99 had an added $2 Whispernet charge to SA customers who had to pay $2.99. They now have to pay $3.41. The books that I priced at $2.99 and were $4.99 are now $5.69 I sell the print copies of my Leon Chameleon books at R49.95 locally, but readers buying the e-book version from Amazon will have to pay approx R59 - R10 more than the print copy!
I noticed that my book price increased from $4.99 to $5.69 and was trying to figure out why. Now that I've read your post I know its because of VAT. It sucks, but there's nothing we can do.
I know. I already feel bad that SA buyers have to pay the extra $2 Whispernet charge. I'll just keep doing countdown promotions so that a $0.99 promotion will only be 99c with no extra Whispernet charge added.
