Zulfiya (ztrotter) Hey, Sorry for a delayed schedule, but so far, my professional life has dominated my existence.

Here is how see the schedule. It looks like it is going to be a lengthy journey, if you find my idea of the schedule viable. The book is massive and very dense-looking, based on the paper copy. It is also very descriptive and packed when it comes to actual word counting. But who counts words nowadays, right? :-)

In the vein our group tradition, we will be reading 50-70, occasionally 100 pages per week, hopefully with a lot of substantial and meaty discussions.

Prelude
07/02/2017 - Work in Progress

Book 1
07/09 - A Host of Angels, ASBOs of Desire
07/16 - Rough Sleepers, X Marks the Spot
07/23 - Modern Times, Blind, but Now I See
07/30 - Atlantis, Do As You Darn Well Pleasey
08/06 - The Breeze That Plucks Her Apron, Hark! The Glad Sound, Choking on a Tune

Book 2
08/13 - Upstairs. An Asmodeus Flight
08/20 - Rabbits, The Scarlet Well
08/27 - Flatland, Mental Flights
09/03 - Sleepless Swards, Malignant, Refractory Spirits
09/10 - The Trees Don't Needs to Know, Forbidden Worlds, The Destructor

Book 3 and Afterlude
09/17- Clouds Unfold, A Cold and Frosty Morning
09/24 - Round the Bend, Burning Gold
10/01 - The Rafters and the Beams, The Steps of All Saints
10/08 - Eating Flowers, Cornered, The Rod in the Wall
10/15- The Jolly Smokers, Go See Now This Cursed Woman, Chain of Office (Afterlude)

Please let me know what your thoughts are. Of course, it is a buddy read, so it is less formal than the official club read, but in our book club history, there were very productive side reads and buddy reads.

It seems like we will be visiting a detailed and richly imagined world. Can it be better than that?

Drew (drewlynn) | 63 comments That looks quite doable to me. I'm going to start next Wednesday after I return from vacation.

Nigeyb I'm already in early September :-)

Yeah, to an extent - but also an all too familiar real world too, but spanning across the ages

I really love it - and the little pieces of interlinking narratives are brilliant and, gradually, an overall cohesion and coherence seems to be emerging. It's magnificent.

Biblio Curious (bibliocurious) | 164 comments I'll start right after Canada Day, on July 1st!!

It's our 150th Birthday, the young whipper snapper of a country.

Zulfiya (ztrotter) The beautiful beautiful country!

Andrea (tasseled) | 189 comments O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.

message 8: by Karen (new)

Karen Frances | 32 comments Just downloaded it as I have joint problems making big books like this hard to handle.
Really looking forward to becoming immersed over the coming months!

Biblio Curious (bibliocurious) | 164 comments You 2 are hilarious!! Thanks for the birthday wishes! Russia has a major date coming up later this year!! And our partying neighbours also have a birthday in a couple of days.

I prop heavy books up on a pillow, sometimes with a bookstand.

It's going to be a great read!! I've heard awesome stuff about this one!

Karen Frances | 32 comments First few pages show great promise already. It has a magical, dreamlike quality and I already have so many questions.
Not sure about the dialogue being written in dialect. I have given up on books before because of the impenetrable way in which dialogue was written (I am looking at you Paul Kingsnorth) but I am sure that I will get used to it if the rest of the writing is as high quality as the prelude.

Zulfiya (ztrotter) Karen, the thread for a proper discussion has been opened. Would you mind sharing your thoughts there. Sorry for a delay with the thread.

message 13: by Karen (new)

Karen Frances | 32 comments So far I am slightly ahead of schedule and am looking forward to discussing the chapters read so far when the threads open 😀

message 14: by Dianne (new)

Dianne Does anyone want to keep these threads open? If not I may close them since it seems no one is interested in keeping up a discussion.

message 15: by Drew (new)

Drew (drewlynn) | 63 comments If anyone wants to keep on with this, I am also willing and promise to post more. I put the book aside a few weeks ago and didn't get back to it even though I was really enjoying it.

message 16: by Dianne (new)

Dianne I would be willing to start October 1 if anyone wants to keep it alive... anyone want to join me late or willing to look back and join any latecomers?

Laurel Bradshaw (llawryf) | 40 comments I had good intentions, but haven't started it yet.
