In the Still of the Night (Grace & Favor, #2) by Jill Churchill

Heavy Sigh

When one gets older: I decided to reread this series, I liked the premise, I didn't remember the stories....

I decided not to be a "ROO" and I (thought)I ordered all of them from the LIbrary.

I counted them.... but I could not locate #2: "In the Still of the Night".....

I read all the books I checked out, but no matter where I looked; under the bed, under the chairs, under the chaise, under the car seat I cound not find the blikyity-blinking book!

I took all the books to the back to the Library... It is no longer on my list....

I went through the Library Catalog, because, of course, I still want to read this.....

Well! It appears that I Never checked the book out as the Library Does NOT Own a copy!

I say, I say.... I checked the catalog, every-single-way I know how (and I do know how)... They Do Not Own the Book...

Ok, I bought a copy from Amazon for $5.00... Hopefully I get it before I forget what I read & have to begin at the beginning again!

Is it me or is anyone else having difficulties adding to their shelf?

I've reviewed 3 books in the past 2 days and not one of them has shown up on my shelf!

Yes, I contacted Goodreads.

This bug has been reported ... look at THIS THREAD in the Goodreads Feedback group.

Here's how I've worked around it.

1) Sort list by BOOKS READ
2) Search for the book title in the "search and add books" box (NOT the larger box at the top of the page, but the smaller one underneath)
3) When you find your book, click on the edit box JUST UNDER the date read. If the date in the pop-up box is correct, do NOT change it, just click SAVE.

That should populate your book back up to the correct spot in the Books Read list order.

Hope that made sense.

==============================

By the way ... I never use the TBR or currently reading shelves. I don't add books until I've finished them. SO, for me ... I can sort books by "DATE ADDED" and they're all there in the correct order. (I can then "edit" the date read field as described above, and if I resort by DATE READ, they're in the right order.)

Laurie (laugal) I am currently reading HAPPINESS by Horace Fletcher pub in 1898. It is an original edition. It is a self help book of the 1800's. I like it. It is basically treating your life like a garden and getting rid of the weeds and tending to the flowers and plants to keep it all healthy. It is also pro forethought and not fearthought. Fear thought stagnates our selves and also brings on more of the bad stuff.Sounds pretty much like 2017!!!!! And there is a typed letter glued to the back inside cover from the person that gave the book away.It was dated 9/11/1911 and interesting! This author ahd several books for health and wellness.
I am also reading DAISY MILLER by Henry James.Like it so far. Daisy Miller by Henry James This should take me to end of year.I made it to 29 books this year! Not my usual 50 but 29 is much better than last few years. Daisy Miller by Henry James

Everyone:

Would it be ok for me to post some of your reviews to our FB pages?

I'll be sure to post only your Goodreads name...

I like to keep our FB members up on what we're reading, not just my choices.

I'll use shorter reviews, because FB members, tend to prefer short & sweet....

Thanks!

Laurie (laugal) went to my favorite huge book sale yesterday.Bought 12 hardcovers for $12. Some looked like they were never opened. So happy! 5 of these books were hard copies of AND LADIES OF THE CLUB ny Helen Hooven Santmyer. I started collecting this one book after reading it and loving it.I seem to need to rescue it from destruction. :) I have them displayed on my Gran's plant stand.I am hoping the plant standwill hold all copies now! ...And Ladies of the Club by Helen Hooven Santmyer I also bought an old hardcover of The Legacy by Nevil Shute.

I had the club book for several years before reading it.It was highly recommended on Shelfari.I finally dove in.I will say it takes abt 150 pages to get into it,but it is worth it! The females are strong, and there are several story lines. You really feel like you are part of the book.when I got to half way mark,I was sad.It took me all night to read the last chapter.I was crying alot and also did not want it to end! The publisher made her remove 750 pages from original manuscript!!!!!!! I like the fact she was old enough to know people that lived in these times,so it was accurate! Her hometown is Xenon Ohio and the town she writes of is based on it. Give it a try, even if you wait for winter weather to hunker down with it.*** MY gran's plant stand cannot hold 10 copies,so I have had to move them for now, working on the new display! I have left instructions, at my funeral, anyone that wants a copy can have one. :)

Happy Fourth of July to all our USA members. Are you planning anything special?

We're going to a friend's for a cook-out. I'm actually kinda dreading it because it's supposed to be 90F and humid ... NOT my favorite weather.

Our main fireworks display for Milwaukee occurred last night. They always do it on the 3rd of July so everyone who's out late for the extravaganza doesn't have to get up early the next day to go to work.

But the villages around here (and I live in a small suburban village), all do their parades and fireworks displays today/tonight.

OK...

This is the part I normally ignore...

I am the featured photographer Descanso Gardens: :Growing Habitat: Exhibition w/ 27 wildlife photos + 3 for the interactive

3 photos in Channel Islands Maritime Museum "Nautica: All Things Sea"

5 photos in USC-Keck Verdugo Hills Hospital "Healing Arts" exhibition

and Friends of Rockhaven have asked permission to use my photos of Rockhaven Sanitarium (it was famous in the 30's - 40's) in displays...

so I'm busy and excited (grateful) to have my work seen in 4 new & very public venues

Ideas are always helpful....

The last game/challenge we had went very slowly and not many participated, which was why I haven't created any for the past year.

What I've heard from the people who want to stay: Goodreads does not have an easy to use interface, many people have difficulty finding their groups, so they do not post.

With Shelfari, only your groups would show on top, not to the side & without all the crowding for attention by other pages; It was easier to see your shelf; It was much easier to follow the comments of a particular thread's topics, as all replies were nested (together).

In other words Shelfari was easier to use & navigate and was more attractive...

Goodreads is more difficult to use and there is too much unnecessary & unwanted content.

We moved our very active group(s) here; Book Chat & Historical Mysteries; but that did not sit well & many members have refused to migrate with us.

If you click on your own avatar in the upper right corner of your desktop page, you'll get a drop down menu...
Profile
Friends
Groups

(etc)

If you click on the GROUPS link from that drop down menu it will go DIIRECTLY to YOUR groups (ordered from most comments by you to fewest).

That's the page I always navigate from.

When I was working at the Library, I read many, many more, but I no longer have the access to all those books & cookbooks.
