See our bookshelf for ideas, the list only includes the books nominated for our group reads.

Our listopia list. Link is in the thread up top and here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7... again. Its composed of books that we read as monthly reads as well as all the poll nominees.

Voted on those I've read.

No, its good to clarify. Yoly will be the only one adding to the list but everyone is encouraged to go as we go along. Just to make things clear for everyone.

(I am not a librarian and therefore I have no power.)

Yay! Thank you!

Will try to keep it updated after every poll."
I think the list needs to be updated. Can you take care of it Yoly? Thank you!!!!!

I had forgotten about the list. Will take care of it this week."
Lol, no worries. I just checked it for my own reading curiosity. Oh, and I have an idea for the Nov/Dec poll for us, why don't we do a 2015 releases category? Since most of them would have come out by then it may be a good way to end the year with some new 2015 titles.

Yeah, reading more recent stuff sounds like a great theme.
I think I've had some trouble with some of our older picks because some of them feel kind of dated in their styles.

Although, I thought Sword-Dancer was a group read and its not on there? Did I get that one completely wrong?

Huh! God Stalk wasn't there either, don't know why those two weren't there. Fixed it.

I'd really like to do a "released this year" pick.
The thread about books getting a film adaptation this year would probably work too. We might want to be a little discerning about that one, though. That is, how faithful the adaptations are: "based on" versus "inspired by" and all that kind of thing.

Are there enough female written SFF books getting a film adaptation this year to have enough for a poll? Or maybe we could expand it to the 21st century (if we want a few more modern reads)?

Mmmm. Probably not for any given year.... A more practical theme might be any SF/F books with female authors that have a film/TV adaptation. The Lathe of Heaven could have been on a list like that (if we hadn't already read it.)

Oh this could be great. I proposed a similar theme on another book club which was basically read a book with a movie adaptation then watch the movie and compare and contrast.
For female writers we might have to do some homework. From the top of my head I have the Hunger Games, Divergent, The Mortal Instruments, The Giver, Beautiful Creatures, Vampire Academy (see the pattern here?). And of course if we want to go completely crazy, we could throw in Twilight and The Host :)
But there's also The Mists of Avalon and Earthsea.
There's also The Lathe of Heaven, The Handmaid's Tale and Frankenstein which we have done already.

And Frankenstein if it already hadn't been read. :)

I'm up for something like that. A book/movie month. Love it.

We could do a re-read and then watch Young Frankenstein....

For some reason it seems I missed the Frau Blucher character in Mary Shelley's version...

We will be adding all the books that make it to the reading selection polls so this list could serve as a recommended reading list for anyone interested in this the genre.
