Challenge Corner discussion

Moderators, post here if you need or will be needing help with your responsibilities.

Hello, CC members! We are hoping to add to our wonderful MOD team. We know it's a lot of work to maintain a group, but since we've slowly trickled down to a few main MOD's, we've decided it's high time for some new blood to join the mix.

We are looking for the following commitments:

💠Help with creating buddy read threads when requests come in.
💠Help with creating read-a-thon's.
💠Help with creating challenges (monthly, quarterly, & non-competitive).
💠Help with creating BOTM suggestion threads, polls, and then BOTM threads.
💠Other admin duties (ex: BR planned threads, answering questions, sending messages out to the group, etc.)

If you are an active member and would like this opportunity, please comment below and answer the following questions.

Does this mean we cannot participate in challenges?! lol

Every day but could slow down during the weekend.

No, lol, you can definitely still participate in challenges. You just won't be placed as a winner at the end of them. Or be able to pick a book prize—e-book or physical.

For example, when we do individual scores after a challenge ends and we do 1st place, 2nd place, etc. If you are in the top 3, you get skipped and the next person who isn't a MOD get's placed as a winner.

Creating the challenges is definitely fun. Though participating in them is the best part! Thanks for posting :).

I wish I have some time to allocate to this because I know how serious it is and how much effort it takes all of you mods. Plus I am still discovering GR.

Please let us know if there's any other way we can support you or if we can take on smaller tasks to help.

It was a legitimate question, Ivelisse. I tend to not participate in a lot of my own challenges. It depends on the challenge.

It was definitely a good question! I also agree, because it's kind of hard to be in certain ones. Like our current clue challenge, because I know the answers lol.

Yay! Thank you so much for posting :) I also feel the pain when it comes to work projects! They slow down my reading and then I remember that I have audiobooks that I could be listening to lol

- I'm available every day. Mon-Fri during work hours (9am to 5pm) would be more sporadic but available pretty much whenever outside of that.

LOL, anytime I'm on my laptop, everyone just assumes I'm reading, and I'm like, "No, this does other things, like create challenges."

Same as above, depending on if I have any appointments. I am home all day at least 4-5 days a week. If I am not reading, I am checking groups and challenges.

I'm on Goodreads sort of all day. The notifications go through to my phone when I'm out of the house, so I often post book updates or chat on team threads from there. But I'm a master's student so I'm on my laptop for most of the day doing research/reading/etc. Goodreads is my website for when I need a study/work break, so I casually check in and handle my notifications like twice an hour, lol.

For longer planning projects it depends on whether or not the mods talk over the phone or if it's mostly done via chat. Over the phone is an issue because I live in Scotland right now, so the time difference would likely make things difficult to schedule. But as far as asynchronous planning/thread making/thinking up challenges/etc. I'm around to do that kind of stuff for most of the day, every day. I have a few hours of lecture but other than that my time is largely my own (and I spend a ton of it on here!)

Oh, and before I forget, we don't talk on the phone. We do text, though. Or send PMs to each other, lol. I do get that people probably don't want to share that.

I'm liking the idea of having multiple zones for MODs; that way, someone will most likely be available or around for questions, threads, and other things.

So, I'm thinking of having a private group in GR where we could chat on that too. Not sure yet, but open to ideas to make things easier for everyone.

On that note, I'm in PST. I'm actually most active during the work day😂 which for me is 8-4 (11am-7pm EST)

I just wanted to let you all know that Aly and I are so happy that so many of you want the opportunity to become MODs here. We will be discussing things soon and then we will let you all know with a PM :)

I don't want to give an exact time frame on when responses will go out. Sorry about this. Aly is currently not feeling well, and I don't want to rush this whole process.

That being said, this opportunity is still open (after this little message) and if anyone else wants to add a message or questions, please do :)

I am also in PST and don't like to talk on the phone either. Texting and PM are fine.

Also, texting/PMs are great! PMs or other message services are probably good too just to avoid international texting fees, lol

I think it's good since half of the group will have night then, so my absence will not have much effect.
