I was looking for some really creepy books to check out and came across this list! Of course The Handmaid's Tale would be on it....that book is not in the horror/suspense genre, but it doesn't need to be to chill you right to the bone. Also, I didn't think Lolita was that disturbing! I read this in a college class so there was much discussion at the time about the book's skirting around pedophilia. I thought it was interesting to see into the mind of this man that most of us can't understand at all.

Kristina | 10 comments I usually do not go in for the horror/suspense type mysteries. I don't like to read about gore or mutilation. I therefore have no idea why I finished reading The Bone Parade by Mark Nykanen. I love reading books about art, and I suppose that's what grabbed me. Narrator Ashley Stassler is known for his bronze sculptures of whole families. It is only when he takes you along to find "inspiration" for the next piece, Family #9, that you learn the gruesome truth of how Stassler is able to cast such life-like bronzes. It's probably been a decade since I read this book, but I cannot forget the graphic details of the methodical captures and murders. I kind of want to throw up just writing this review. So, if disturbing horror is your bag, I highly recommend this one. You won't soon forget it.

That book terrified me! Have you read any of King's son's books? My husband, a King fan, says Joe Hil's books are very good, and he's better than his dad at writing interpersonal relationships.

Laronica Conway (llconway) | 3 comments I had NO idea his son was a writer! I stopped reading a lot of King when I became more interested in legal thrillers and police procedurals. Will have to check out his son though. I'm always looking for new authors to read. Thanks!!
