Eva | 2 comments I don't know if this is addressed somewhere else here, but I would love to know if any of you have anything new coming out soon! These variations have been a great source of escape for me. :)

Eva | 2 comments Dear Nicole, Thank you so much for your response. I read Rumors and Recklessness recently (in one go) and thought it was magnificent.

If I may, I would like to ask the question I was too bashful to ask the first time: does anyone have any recommendations for a fledgling author who has developed a passion for these variations? I have written many non-fiction and academic works, but have never written a lengthier piece of fiction. Thanks so much!

Eva, great question! We all started out sometime. Most of us wrote JAFF on the various JAFF boards. The advantages to that are many.

For one, you learn the pace, flow, and most importantly the language of Recency fiction. You get immediate feedback, which helps you "keep on keeeping on." And you are exposed to other authors doing just the same. You would be surprised at the number of these stories that are later polished and published.

If you would like a list of my recommended sites, go to my profile and click on my website. You'll be able to send an email to me.

Good luck and keep writing!

Elin Eriksen (vaarin) | 1 comments I do not publish but post on FF and AO3. If you want to start with the free sites both have their advantages. I have less formatting issues with FF (fanfiction.net) while AO3(Archivesofourown) usually mess up my word file (I correct it before posting but it means an extra round of editing) AO3 have better warnings, more fandoms to choose from and more readers... There are many more sites. AHA was to much fuss to post, rules like do not publish before it has been an hour since the last post etc. (I usually do all the chapters at once.) Lizzy and Darcy.com, Dwiggie, Austen Underground, to name a few...
If you choose to publish on the free sites, the reviews are generally nicer. I guess readers have fewer expectations of a free read compared to something they have to pay for. I have heard about authors that have been trolled but that has not been my experience. Despite having scribbled some controversial stories, the reviewers have been surprisingly nice or at least constructive in their criticism.
Many seem to watch the newly published list, (I had 50 emails with reviews, favourite or followed within 24 hours after posting my first story.)
Best of luck Eva!

Adele (delbert59) | 9 comments Sometime in August 2020 I stopped watching any news and started down this rabbit hole of reading Pride and Prejudice variations. I have just been so happy to escape to this fantasy. By Halloween I realized I had stopped watching any TV and have been obsessively reading when not working.

I read this 2012 study about reconsumption (like watching reruns or reading fan fiction) can give you a boost of happiness. When you already know the answer to the problem there is less anxiety and more enjoyment of the activity. Well 2020 is the year where lessening anxiety and boosting happiness is sorely needed.

I’ve recently started actually reviewing what I’ve read. Partly because I feel the need to do something co structure with this obsession but also to remind myself which books I liked and why. Then I can seek more books by those authors.

Anyway here is my question: sometimes I am trying to remember the title or author to a book where I remember important themes but I can’t remember the actual book. Is there a good index of JAFF where you can search existing JAFF by some key words?

Hi Adele!
I'm so happy you've found happiness in reading JAFF! I can certainly understand the study since I often re-visit my favorite stories when I need a boost.

To answer your question, there's a site called JAFFindex that has a list of fan fictions as well as ways to search by category, JA novel, etc. It does have a username and password, but those can be obtained on one of the fan sites (AHA, DWG, and Darcy and Lizzy). The Index is by no means a comprehensive list since there is a lot of JAFF out there but it is a fun resource.

Happy reading!

Adele (delbert59) | 9 comments I have a question about Kindle books. Some of them are very well edited and proof read and some are really terrible. Does Amazon leave that up to each author to make sure their product is ready for prime time? Second question if a reader catches a typo or *gasp* mistake whats the best way to inform the author? I recently read a JAFF book where the author spelled Bingley 3 different ways *eeek*

Hi Adele,

Amazon does not regulate the content in books and leaves it up to the author if they wish to have an editor, etc. (with the exception of plagiarism!). If you find an error, there are multiple ways to notify an author if they have a typo in their book (and even books with multiple proofreaders still have typos!). You can report the error in the Kindle. On the page with the error, tap and hold onto the misspelled word. ...
Select more from the pop-up menu.
Tap on Report Content Error.
Select what type of content error it is.
Describe the issue in the text box (optional).
Tap on Submit.
That puts a report on our Kindle publishing page so we can fix it. You can also notify the author through a personal message if you know how to contact them through social media.

I hope that answers your question :) Thank you!

Adele, Thanks so much for your work helping us grow. You helped a lot with my first, A Frankness of Character. I would really like to site you on the thank you page. How would you like to be noted?

message 12: by Adele (new)

Adele (delbert59) | 9 comments Thanks Pemberly, I feel like it’s a small payment I can make for enjoying an author’s gift on these free fan fiction sites. If you want to thank me on the site you can just use my user name Delbert59, here or in Real Life I’m Adele Dorfner Roth. I really enjoyed A Frankness of Character.

Pemberley Darcy (pemberleydarcy) | 2 comments So glad that you enjoyed it! I really never thought I would publish, it was the positive response that encouraged me to. I'll use your full name if you don't mind. I plan to do a thank you page right in the book for the proofreaders, photographer, and fantastic sources on Jane Austen that I used to inform my mind.

Catherine Hemingway | 1 comments What is the process and criteria for getting a new Jane Austen novel included on this website? My book was published in March and is available on Amazon and listed in Goodreads. My book is a sequel that brings together characters from all six novels which results in three weddings and an engagement. Since I am a first time novelist I'm on a learning curve and appreciate any guidance you can provide. Thank you.
