Lynn--yes, gods and goddesses are mythical creatures. So, for instance, if you read Valhalla by Jennifer Willis you could count Odin, Thor and Heimdall as well as the World Tree (it spans all of the plains and ties them all together. It's destruction is foretold in the prophecies about Ragnarok--the end of the world) as mythical creatures.

Read-

The list of what you need to read is at the top of this thread (post #1) It's any book that has the named creature in it. So for vampires you could read Dracula or A Quick Bite (or any other Argeneau book) or anything in between that has a vampire in it.
If you can't read all 10, don't sweat it, just set your amount and start reading. Oh, and since this is your first time doing the challenge, a few "rules"--the book MUST have a paranormal element--but the genre is a little loose--PNR, PNMystery, UF, whatever. EXCEPT--if you are doing all 10 books, you are allowed to read up to 3 "non-genre" books. (that's rule was put in place lo, those many eons ago when we started the challenge, because many of us who were doing the challenge then were involved in other challenges, and so some overlap was allowed.) The books MUST meet the rules for the month that you are reading them in--and you must wait until 00:01 of your time zone to start. So, starting the book at 11:59:59 is not allowed (although who's going to know if you don't admit it out loud.)
You can change what books you are reading for any month except for December. That's because December is our "lower the TBR mountain range a bit" and you must read books that are in your TBR stack (or piling up on your Nook/Kindle/tablet), so you must declare them at the start of the month. However, you are allowed 5 alternates, for "just in case" (you dropped the book into the bathtub while bathing because you'd come to a particularly exciting point--or the Nook or Kindle or whatever--although I wouldn't recommend dropping the e-reader, since they are a little expensive to replace. And the dropping the book in the bathtub actually happened to me. I was reading one of the Sookie Stackhouse books and got to one of the parts where Sookie was being beat up, well, it just dropped. I had to go out and find another copy of the book a couple of days later, since I couldn't salvage the one I'd dropped.
Anyway--welcome to the Challenge group. If you don't know how to link your book, just let us know and somone will walk you through it.

August 2017 reading challenge
Duration: 8/1/2017 - 8/31/2017
Progress: 5 out of 10
Ok, this was the January 2009 challenge (the first one that I can find down in the dust covered stacks) :o) I've put it in, just as Wyz did, lo those many centuries ago.
For the 10th book, just pick your favourite creature and label it as such:
Inspired by the 999 Reading Challenge in another booksite, I wondered if anybody in our group would be interested in a reading book challenge for the month of January?
The challenge is to read one book with a least one paranormal character or element. I'm using the number 9 for 2009.

Since some books have more than one of these elements, just pick the category you want to put it in.
Let me know what you guys think?
I'm back. I know, I know, you didn't even miss me did you? But if I'd been late posting the new challenge you'd have missed me. :o) Last Thursday my computer decided to commit suicide and died a sad and miserable death. It's taken me until today to first find out that it had definitely died and there was no saving it, and secondly to get a new computer in.
I'm presently trying to get all my lost data, websites etc relocated and downloaded, but I will have that next challenge up on time.
