Dave Cullen shares with us all that can be known about the violent events at Columbine High School on April 20 1999 and what came after. He does a good job at giving us an impartial view at the culprits, the victims, their relatives, the responding forces and the environment this happened in.
This is an event I had of course heard of, but knew very little about beyond it being one of the violent high school shootings in the US. Thus I also had no erroneous explanations to set straight. I found Dave Cullen did a very good job describing the dynamics of the community, how understanding of what happened got all tangled, how the needs of individuals for clarity and understanding influenced the story line as it emerged in the weeks, months and years following the events, how people dealt with their personal part of the story. I liked the balanced and empathetic way he presented the psychology of the community and of individuals, including the two boys that caused it all.
This is on my High Notes list and is the only one on that year that I haven't read. I constantly put it on the back burner. I found it difficult to deal with just watching the news! You make me less afraid to pick it up. I do have grandchildren living in CO with 2 now in high school..... I just don't know if I can deal with it.
