Nessy | 2 comments Hello,

I am super new to anime, not read anything yet apart from the odd thing online and I'm wanting to get into some books/comics. I'd love it to be sci-fi romance, but will try anything once. Please can I also have books aimed at adults.

I'd love to get my teeth into an ongoing comic series so if anyone has recommendations on that I'd be grateful.

Thanks in advance

Nessy

My first experience with Battle Angel Alita was as a movie on tv (actually two episodes combined into one movie) and then I found the manga later on in a store and snatched them up. This is probably my favorite Sci Fi series and kodansha has been releasing them again after so many years (there is a Last Order series that is published as well.) I believe the new releases are hardcover and the original right to left style. :)

I would say if you like strange sci fi comics you might want to try Black Science from image comics. It is a little hard to follow at times but It is something like Lost in Space and Sliders had a comic book baby. Also Titan publishing releases Doctor Who comics if you are interested. :)

James (anime_asshat101) | 16 comments Does it have to be clean, because I know this anime that's like the action/comedy genre. I'll give several that were really good, but have moderately adult content.

Chivalry of a failed knight. Partial nudity, minor blood and sexual references, cursing and an incest driven little sister, yet still worth watching.
Kaze no stigma. cursing, blood, quite a few pantyshots, and two romantically involved cousins. still an awesome show.
Machine doll wa kizutsukanai. Yandere puppet who's obsessed with her puppeteer. lots of sexual references, mass hilarity, partial nudity, pantyshots, You might not be able to breathe from laughter, but it also has very serious moments as well.
I didn't list all the good things but they severely outweigh the bad.

Chelsea (crystal_dark) | 271 comments You might want to check out MyAnimeList at some point to search through manga lists based on genre and see if there is a connected Anime to any of the manga that you read. I love using MyAnimeList to keep track of my ongoing series and what chapters I have read as well as finding new series.

I haven't read as many sci-fi romance series (I lean more towards supernatural than sci-fi) but have read a few that were pretty good.
Here is a list of some that I enjoyed as well as a few supernatural romances that might be close enough to sci-fi to interest you.

My Anime List is awesome! Once you get a hold on what you're looking for it's so useful, and just as Chelsea said, you can track your progress.

Anime/Manga gets categorized according to the audience is aimed at, for example:
- Seinen: adult and mature themes
- Shoujo: females / girl related > such as romance or drama
- Shonen: males / boy related > such as action or fantasy

But at the end, depends on your likes and the stories that resonate with you.

Some of my personal favorites are:

MAL: Saint Onii-san
GR: Saint Onii-san
Comedy, Seinen, Slice of Life - Anime complete, Manga complete (but I couldn't find the last chapters translated, sorry)
Jesus and Buddha take a trip to Japan for holidays. Beautifully told. Nothing offensive or extremist. Just two friends enjoying the simple life.

MAL: Noblesse
GR: Noblesse
Action, School, Supernatural, Vampire - This is an ongoing manwha (korean) available on Webtoon, doesn't have an anime, but it has a OVA (movie) instead.
Vampire, Werewolves, enhanced humans, power play. You can appreciate the artists drawings and the quality of their designs. Gets kinda slow at some point, but the majority of "fighting" stories fall for that.

MAL: Shinobi No kuni
GR: Shinobi No kuni
Action, Historical, Shounen - Manga only, complete
Ninjas!!!!!!!!!! The art of stealth.

For the following, I've only watched the anime, the manga is on my pending list:

MAL: Mushishi
GR: Mushishi
Mystery, Fantasy, Historical, Supernatural, Seinen - Manga/Anime Complete.
A guy who's able to see Mushi, ancient entities, and their relationship with humans, helping both sides.

MAL: Natsume Yuujinchou
GR: Natsume Yuujinchou
Slice of Life, Supernatural, Drama, Fantasy, Shoujo - Manga/Anime Complete.
A guy who's able to see Youkai (spirits). It's said that owning their names gives you power over them, but he goes on a quest to return the names to their rightful owners, building friendship instead of enmity.

MAL: Space Dandy
GR: Space Dandy
Sci-Fi, Space, Comedy - Manga/Anime Complete.
Bounty hunter theme, in space! The protagonist work consists on searching and identifying new aliens. But he's not the classic "hero" and his adventures are weird, funny, and sometimes deeply introspective.
