I'm glad I decided to check in yesterday and pick an award winner to read this month. I loved this book and my eyes were glued to my Kindle for most of yesterday and tonight! This is a wonderful book - Pulitzer prize winner from 1995!
As I started THE STONE DIARIES, I thought, "I read this before". Well I had started it once but put it down. I think that this is a book that I had to be ready to read - I am at the point in my life where reading about the entire life of a woman born in 1905 and living through the early 80's has a certain meaning for me.
Daisy Stone Goodwill was born as a surprise to her parents. Her life started in Canada and moved through to Indiana and then Florida. Her life was mundane but there were also many interesting parts and occurrences that just could not be made up (this is a book remember).
The writing was fantastic. I love the historical portion of life in Canada in the early twentieth century mixed in with Florida "blue hairs" and a mother's responsibilities.
