Does life and our ability to make choices matter since we all die anyways?

I have recently read this play twice, once in my Lit class and once for a book club, and this question keeps striking me. The play keeps having the effect of our lives being scripted out and controlled and Ros and Guil wonder the whole time, and as they face death, does it all matter if they had a choice in what had happened?

I strongly believe in Free Will. It doesn't mean that we can avoid or escape some facts in life, including death, and Fate does have a primary role in our lives, however, even Physics now seems to support the idea that our choices can change reality.

There is a difference between Fate and fatalism, the latter being the abdication not only of our right to take part in Fate itself, but also, and this is where I really have a problem, of all our responsibilities.

Think about it, if we believe that everything is pre-ordered, then we have no responsibilities, as we cannot change the universe in any way. I find this choice immoral and cowardly...
