Any suggestions???
PLEASE let us chat ...

Sorry I'm just now checking in. I was absorbed in finishing books yesterday and wrapping up the week for my Hunger Games team, but I'm here and ready to play. This is a really fun game and it's SUPER easy to do!
Art...I would love to help you Captain this round. It's really easy and if you need anything at all, I'd be here to help out. I'm having surgery on August 31st --- no worries, it won't slow me down, it's just overnight in the hospital and I'm out --- so I don't want the full responsibility. I haven't fully captained this particular challenge, but it isn't hard.
I've been on a team with K-Terror before...*Waves to K-Terror* ...the rest of you are new friends! : )
Let's see...what else... I'm a wife, mom to three sons, grandmother to two grandsons & one granddaughter, the oldest is 2 1/2, and I'm semi-retired at this point due to health issues. As a result, I read a LOT of books. We have a very old dog that we love dearly (Maggie) and two horses that I use for physical therapy and pleasure riding. I'm slowly working my way back to health where I can resume parade riding and chasing around my friends on the equestrian drill team.
I'll read almost anything. Lately I've been reading a lot of Urban Fantasy, Western Historical Romance, Christian Fiction, Contemporary Romance, and YA/Fantasy. I'm not terribly picky. I think my favorite list is pretty long. LOL!
It's nice to meet everyone! Let's start with throwing out some name suggestions! Any ideas?

Name Suggestions for Team 12:
Using the Team #:
Tome of Twelve Bibliophiles
Twelve Tomes
Dozen Dissertations
Other randomness:
Sasquatch on a Leash (from Kevin Hearne via Tricked, Iron Druid #4)
The Prolific Periodicals
The Zen Den

Name Suggestions for Team 12:

Devouring Dozens (from the "Million and One" crossword dictionary listing for "read")

My youngest is still single, but I expect to hear about an engagement announcement in the next year or so. He's been seeing the same girl since he was a Junior in high school and she recently finished college. My oldest son also married his high school sweetheart!
I'm sorry to hear you're having some health troubles. It's never any fun, especially when it hangs on and on. Books are a real help to me when I can't get out and around.

I like all the name suggestions! It's going to be hard to pick a favorite, but we'll figure it out. Feel free to take any suggestions of mine and rearrange them, or use them for inspiration, or toss them. I'm really not picky about that sort of thing. As long as everyone is content with the name we pick, I'm happy.
I think we just need K-Terror's input and we're good to go!
I'm off to bed. See everyone tomorrow!

This'll be a new series for me ...

I also have an older daughter who's my husband's from a previous marriage. She lives in Oregon & we're in Indiana so it's always exciting to get some time to chat. She called last night and before you know it, 2 hours passed. YIKES! LOL!
I'm married to a fireman, which means that I typically get LOTS of reading time every 3 days when he's at the firehouse for his 24 hour shift. In my free time I like to binge watch netflix with my kids/husband, go for walks and play with my crazy puppy. We're finishing up laying floors on our downstairs level so am actually looking forward to spending time doing something other than that!
I love all of the names!!! Since we have so many awesome ones and I'm late coming in, I won't add to the already hard decision to narrow down to one! I think my favorites are: The Zen Den, More than 11, Dozen Dissertations
Big thanks to Art for volunteering for captain & Becky for assisting ~ you guys are awesome!
As far as favorite books, I'm totally going through a psychological thrillers phase and try to pick those up and fit them into challenges as I can. Besides mystery/suspense, I also enjoy PNR, YA and contemporary romance too. I used to stay clear of historical fiction but am finding some of those quite enjoyable! The only shelf that I seem to struggle with is steampunk... I've found some books I like but I seem to have to week through quite a few!

At least I can do things now without passing out! Yay! Gotta keep up with the little grand-rugrats! They are almost to the age where it's time to introduce them to horseback riding and Grandma is super excited about teaching them how it's done!

My Seven Kids are scattered, mostly in MO, with one each in KS, WA, and TX. There're Eleven Grands in there, too.
More on track, I like the page numbers ... our team had a rejection last round ... we don't need it for tracking, tho. I think I've finally gotten that into shape to transfer into and paste away to the new Captain's Log
Thanks to everyone for your help, It'll get easier from here, I'm sure ...

Good one, Art! Can I vote for it?

Oh, Hallelujah! I'm a little burned out on Steampunk, or else I haven't found the right Steampunk series. They all end up being Paranormal Romance with goggles on.

My Review :
This is a cute story about fairy tales that centers around a young high school girl. Mina Grime (yes that's grime, like the dirt) learns that her family is 'cursed' after an incident during a school field trip. Fairy tales that have gone astray are pulled toward the designated Grimm and play out in the real world wherever the Grimm is present. With the help of her grimoire (if she can find it), Mina is tasked with stopping the evil characters so the stories are back on track for a happy-ever-after.
The characters weren't as developed as I like them to be, but the story isn't that long so I can forgive a lot under those circumstances. I did enjoy Mina and Nan's relationship. Nan brings a lot of energy to the book. Whenever she is with Mina, she lifts the overall heaviness of Mina's burden with her fun personality. I didn't understand the point of Nan's odd 'food' bet with Mina's brother, Charlie, thought. The exchange added nothing to the plot and told us very little about Nan, other than she's an only child and does have a big heart. (view spoiler)
I enjoyed this book and will look into the next installment in the series.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Book: Anathema by K.A. Tucker
How it Fits: Shelved 12 times as kindle-freebies
Read: 8/10
Rating: 3.5 stars
Review:
I've always been a big fan of K.A. Tucker books but had been hesitant to read this one since YA/Paranormal is not her typical genre. So when I saw it on the kindle-freebie list, I took it as a sign. Like Ms. Tucker's other books, her writing style captured my attention and allowed me to feel all the highs and lows of the main character. As a child of the foster system, Evangeline was a lonely girl and was desperate to connect with someone and to feel like she belonged somewhere. This also left her very vulnerable to be manipulated or used by folks not so nice. There were basically two groups of people Evangeline became involved with and each appeared to be on opposite sides of the good & evil coin. The story had some twists and turns and kept me guessing on which side Evangeline should be aligning herself. There was also a love interest that captured my heart and leaves you hanging at the end... so book two is now queued up!

Shelf #1 ~ 8/9/17: Kindle Freebie

Kade's Dark Embrace by Kym Grosso
Read: 8/11/17
Rated: ★★★★✩
Review:
This will be an interesting series. In the opener, we discover (in order of appearance) Humans, Vampires, Shape-shifters (wolves, so far), and Witches/Mages (although its not clear yet if there's any distinction). The first Human is our MC, a gritty police detective. The first Vampire, our other MC, catches a brief glance of her on her day off, sitting a few hundred feet away at the end of a pier on the waterfront in Philadelphia.
Heroine is called to a new body that Hero has indirectly come from New Orleans to investigate, and ... we're off!.
The writing style is kinda YA, with very explicit sex thrown in. As i said, an interesting, quick-reading series. There are seven as of 2015, according to the list at the end.

Thanks, K!
I don't mind retellings if they are done really well, like The Lunar Chronicles. This was pretty cute and that's saying a lot considering I absolutely loathe high school YA. If I'm reading YA, it's usually dystopian, high fantasy, or urban fantasy that has nothing to do with high school drama or mean girl stuff. Lived it, hated it, have a t-shirt somewhere... LOL!

I keep track of my challenges on a spreadsheet so I hammered out a Bingo Card for us on Google Sheets. It has all the shelf links (where applicable) and I'll update it as Art receives our stamps. I thought it might be helpful to have one big enough to actually read. Just click on the text to go to the shelf. You can also get to the team thread by clicking on our Team name at the top of the card.
If anyone wants editing privileges, just let me know and I'll change the settings. Here's the link:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

I'll be checking both ... (O_O)

Just FYI...I'll be out stuffing myself with delicious breakfast food for my MIL's birthday brunch. I'll be around this afternoon and should finish my book for the Free Space today.
Have a great morning, Everyone!
