Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments I'm sure I saw a thread somewhere about discounted promotions but as I can't find it, I hope you don't mind me putting this here. It comes from My Book Cave which does seem to be short of books as their lists sent to me have very few books on them. I don't think they have too many subscribers yet, but I do think they are growing. They have guidelines for describing your book, so be aware you have to make judgments on your own books, e.g. very violent to pussycat.

Earn a free retailer promotion!

We are excited about our growth and the increasing downloads our books are receiving. Authors have told us what a great value our promotions are for them, but we are finding that we need more great books for our voracious readers! So, for a limited time, you can earn $5 off your next retailer promotion when other authors you tell about us book and pay for a feature. Plus, they also get $5 off. You both win! The author(s) you recommend must be new to My Book Cave and must submit by the end of August. And there is no limit to how many discounts or free features you can earn, so your next promotion may end up being absolutely free. There is no limit to the number of credits you can earn, and your credit never expires. Even if your friends submit their books on August 31 and pay later, you both still get the deal. To receive your discount, just share your unique code with your author friends. They simply put in your code in the “Discount Code” box when they submit their book for a retailer promotion. The next time you promote with us, your accrued discount will be applied to your feature.

Give your author friends this URL to read about our services:

Give your author friends this URL to submit their books:

Here is your unique code: annafaversham61

Yes, please put my unique code, I need all the help I can get. Thank you ;-)

Just to let you know that I've booked a promotion, and quoted your code. The promotion has been approved, so you should see a discount in your account.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments I used to use eBookSoda some time ago and have returned to it for another ad at the beginning of April.

It is one of the few sites which has direct links to Amazon UK as well as other countries. With other sites if I press on the button it takes me to Amazon US- no good to me at all.

If you read their requirements for advertising, there are other reasons to advertise with them. They say:

"We like books that are:

Error Free. We look for content that is well-formatted, and free from typos and grammatical errors.

Blessed with a great cover. Unfortunately, people do judge books by their covers, so it will need to be a fairly good standard to make it past our control team.

Highly Rated. Books should have a minimum of 8 reviews with an average star rating of 3.5 unless it’s a new release (less than 3 months old).

Priced at $4.99 or less on the day of the listing. At eBookSoda, you don’t have to have your book on sale to qualify for a spot. As long as your book is $4.99 or less on the day of its listing, it’s eligible for submission. Obviously, you’ll get more downloads if it’s a promotion as everyone loves a good deal, but the visibility should still earn you some new readers.

Hope this is helpful.

Useful? You can create a free author's page.

Marie Silk | 208 comments I've used Book Gorilla for promotions that turned out okay-ish, but haven't tried the author page. I didn't see much purpose in it since the main function of Book Gorilla is the email newsletter.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments I think the idea is that readers can follow you (as on BookBub) and then - who knows? Perhaps they let subscribers know when you have a new book out.

Don't worry though, I know what you mean, all this effort for probably little or no return. I rarely fill these things in myself except when I find I haven't got as much to do as usual! Apparently this is a new idea for Book Gorilla. Silly name, isn't it? Or am I missing something?

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments Probably most of you know much of what is in this post from bookhippo.uk but it might be handy as a check list.

I haven't read it all through yet - must get on with starting my next paperback as from tomorrow I shall not be able to do any real writing work for another 4 days. Grrr.....

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments Caution: This account is temporarily restricted
You’re seeing this warning because there has been some unusual activity from this account. Do you still want to view it?

I'd made a note in my diary for today to check out the site 'Indie Book Discovery'. So, good girl that I am, off I go. Site not available. So I thought I'd take a look at the Facebook account and the Twitter account - not that I can see much as I don't belong but on the Twitter account the above warning in bold is what I saw.

It all sounded such a good idea and pooft! Nothing.

I've put this post on the 'Useful' thread just in case their site is carrying some sort of virus. An IT person can probably say something different...?

Thanks, Anna!!!

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 1814 comments "Unusual activity" could mean various things, but it looks to me like it's an attempt to prevent bots from using Twitter accounts to send spam. This has had some strange results. See this article from last September about a reporter who was apparently targeted by bots with the intent of tricking Twitter into shutting down his account.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments You'll wonder why I'm suggesting this but I hope you can see it might be worthwhile.

Free99books.com is one of the many, many sites that will advertise our books for us. There are two differences:

1. It is free to advertise (there aren't that many good sites that do)
2. It advertises only Indie and small press books - yay!

I'm not just suggesting you advertise through it, I'm suggesting you also share the web address with every reader you'll ever come across. You'll all be better at this than I am!

Oh Dale, how awful that people go around messing up other people's good ideas/lives. What goes around comes around - to them I hope.

Yeah. Unfortunately that's a feature of the world we live in. It's a sort of arms race, with the "good guys" trying to defeat attacks and the "bad guys" trying to defeat security. I heard a snippet of a report on NPR the other morning about how kids are now using social media to share hacks for getting around parental controls. Good grief . . .

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments I've messed up! Overdoing it... ;o) Long story short - These are the sites who have said they will put my book on tomorrow's newsletter. I've been away (not holiday, sigh) and was too slow to sort out my KCD date for today.

I only let the sites know about an hour before they send out their newsletters, so this is good service, and it means my money hasn't gone down their drain.

Book Sends
Book Pebble
Free Books Hub
eBookLister

There are a couple of others who may let me change - I'll have to wait and see.

Worth knowing which sites bend over backwards to be helpful.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments So am I, Alex! Thank you!.

The Fussy Librarian has also agreed to run the ad tomorrow. Bless 'em.

I think I ought to get some early nights!
