I don't know about you, but my bookshelves are my favorite part of my house. I could stare at them all day long. I think what I have on them tells a lot about me and my family.... from my daughters art work, to the momentos from signings and travel. The mug on the 2nd shelf down, with pens and bookmarks. Gifts from readers around the world. The VooDoo Doll I bought in New Orleans. And books--lots and lots of books.

I have them separated -- signed and unsigned. Books that I have duplicates of.
Historical and contemporary. Vintage and new. I do not discriminate.

I think the fact that I have so many is the reason I can never find anything to read; and of course--the genre's I love reading about depend on my mood.
Personally, I love: Regency, highlander, and western Historical. New Adult (which is what I write). Sports romance, specifically hockey and football. I love reading cliche tropes: Brothers best friend. Surprise baby. 2nd chance romance.... the occasional rock star romance thrown in for good measure. Motorcycle Club romance. I could probably go on.

My shelves are pathetic! I need to make them prettier, but first, I need a shelf.

My Kindle shelf, now that's a different story. Everything is separated by author. If I like an author, they get their own shelf and then I binge read them.

Meghan, I've seen your shelves [in pictures]! They're not pathetic!!!!!! They hold all the things! Toys, books... that's what shelves are for!

message 4: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 2 comments My shelves are horrible! I've been looking for the perfect bookcase! Right now all my signed books are lovingly on shelves in an armoire thing. All my other books are in a closet on shelves or in boxes🙈 and my kindle shelves....I just need some extra time one day to sort them but y'all amazing ladies keep putting out more books so who has time? 😍

message 5: by Jen (new)

Jen | 1 comments I love my bookcases. I have them in order and swag and candles to match. My shelves on my GR are somewhat organized. My Kindle is a hot mess. LOL. Too many books, so little time to read.

Heather Brown (heaterb) | 3 comments My shelf needs work and I have a feeling I will need a new one before the book signings I am attending next year 😳

message 8: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (staceyissassy) I don't buy a lot of book books. I have my signed books beside my bed, but to be honest, I'm a dedicated Kindle reader. I can't sneak a read with books at 5:00 in the morning before the house wakes up.

I'm pretty organised with my Goodreads shelves and Kindle shelves.

message 9: by Manda (new)

Manda (manda666) | 2 comments My hardcopy books are all stacked in genre or author. Favourite authors have their own shelves and genres from vamps to romance to tv/movie tie ins etc.
Ebook shelves are sorted with fave authors to series and box sets etc.
OCD when it comes to my books and shelving.

message 10: by Chloé (new)

Chloé | 2 comments My goodreads shelves are a huge mess but I keep pretending everything's okay.

message 11: by Katie (new)

Katie Hello everyone,

I like my book shelves but they are starting to get small. I need to buy new ones ASAP!
As for the organization, I try to regroup books by authors. Though my long time favorites are always on the top shelf ;-)
Also, I added some scented candles and pops to make the shelves look prettier.

I'm more of a paperback fan than Kindle/E-Book. I love the smell of books and the feeling of pages on my fingers.

message 12: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 2 comments I'm with Meghan on this one, my shelves are pathetic also 🙈 I need to prettify them but when I get the time I'll get right on it, but that would cut into my reading time and I'm not all that sure about that 😜

message 13: by Christy (new)

Christy (CaptainReadsALot (christylouwho82) | 1 comments I have two sets of shelves. Upstairs, I have all of my YA. Things like Harry Potter, my Twilight series, Victoria Aveyard, Kierra Cass, etc.

Downstairs, I have five shelves that have almost ALL signed books. I think out of the 250 I have, like 75 aren't signed. I'm a little spoiled. lol

I'm also working on another book shelf because I'm running out of space.

Don't even get my started on the bookshelves that each of my kids have.

Books. All the books.

message 14: by Heather (new)

Heather C | 12 comments I have 3 smaller bookshelves and they need work!

Right now I have almost all of my signed and personalized books on one. The other one is ones that are signed but not personalized and then the third is for non signed books. There aren't in any particular order other than all books by the same author are together.

My kindle shelfs are non existent at this point. Thankfully I rely on GR shelfs to help me remember what I have read because sometimes I have to log in and out of my devices between personal and blog accounts.

message 15: by T.R. (new)

T.R. Cupak (tcupak) | 2 comments I have two hanging shelves that the hubby made me and two regular book shelves in my writing cave, and then I have additional shelves in my spare bedroom.

The shelves that are in my writing cave are reserved for my personalized books of authors I admire and idolize. Those shelves are beginning to burst at the seams since these authors have A LOT of books that I HAD to have.

The shelves in my spare room have personalized books and some that are only autographed. I try to make it a point not to buy paper/hardback books unless they are signed. I still need room for all of my wine too!

PS...my own books that I have written sit on the floor. Is that awful?

message 16: by Delilah (new)

Delilah Frost (frostdelilah) | 1 comments I have no bookshelves *hangs head in shame*

But that's only because I'm working on buying a house and that needs to come before the shelves. But I have grand plans for one lol!

message 17: by Angie (new)

Angie Harvey (acsquared89) | 2 comments My bookshelves are so important to me. I had sort of "inherited" a book collection before I discovered the indie community so I have two 6' tall bookshelves that are 5 shelves each with double rows. I have at least 500 physical books. I reorganized them this weekend. It was so much fun! Wish i could post pictures

My favorite thing to do is re-arrange my bookshelves. We moved in November and I've already re-arranged everything three times....

My shelves need some serious TLC!!! I have double layers...GASP!!!! THE HORROR!!! I have a lot of tattered paperbacks of British chick lit that I was obsessed with in my early 20s!

My next goal is to make my own books shine more. Get a butt load of inventory and make em really pop on my shelf! i need to re-do my whole office though. I'm just waiting until Sara Ney comes to Sioux Falls and we can go shopping together! ;)

message 20: by Shelly (new)

Shelly | 2 comments My shelves are magical! One wall are homemade from old dresser drawers and the other wall homemade old barn ladders! Quirky and weird and 100% mine!

message 21: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Anderson | 3 comments I have my books separated by author, within the next few weeks, I want to do it alphabetical order, but haven't yet. I have pictures and mugs that I was given or bought that are book or tv themed, disbursed within my bookshelves, and using them as book ends.

message 22: by Sara (new)

Sara Ney | 46 comments Mod
I had all my books arranged according to color, and then I could never find anything and I couldn't stand it anymore, LOL. Now they're by author, but still kind of a mess.... **stares at shelf**

BookNerd13 | 1 comments I am awaiting new shelves so I can make them look nicer and my signed books aren't double stuffed in with others. Sara, I have shelf envy of your shelves LOL!

message 24: by Tracy (new)

Tracy | 6 comments Don't ban me for this -- I'm trying to read a lot of my books on the shelf so I can clear them out. I am the queen of too much paper, especially with my writing. So I'm reading them and then deciding what to keep and what to get rid of.

message 25: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Florence | 4 comments I suck at getting signed books. I only have one shelf filled with them. I love paranormal, and fantasy so I have three book shelves with them. Organized together. I'm not very OCD so I don't care as long as the series are together and they fit on the shelf.

I wish I remembered to get more of my favorite books signed when I'm at all these signings. *Thinks with my dipstick Jimmy*
Although I don't read paperbacks anymore. But they are pretty to look at.

message 26: by Tami (new)

Tami | 2 comments My shelves. Are a hot mess. There are not enough. Some shelves are decorated to an author or series. I have multiple copies of many books. It's loosely sorted by genres and faves.
The bottom two rows on each shelf are double stacked and many as can fit. It's sad. The books are all squeezed in super tight. I need more room. And more shelves. Which I'll just keep filling up and double stacking. Sigh. But they sure are pretty.

Jessica *The Lovely Books* (jessybabe) | 3 comments Mine are currently in storage but once I get them out again, I'll have them all alphabetical and maybe if I'm feeling fun...I'll have them sorted by color!

B.K. Harrell (bkharrell) | 7 comments I bought my house because it has a library. I am fortunate to keep it stocked with signed copies. By my author friends.

Tami, what you should have written is: "Bedroom? What bedroom. Oh, you mean my book room with a bed inside it?" LOL I would love to lay in your room and stare at all your stuff. I don't think you can even accurately describe your shelves.....

Monique | 2 comments My bookcase is my happy place as well. I have my favorite authors together and the ones I have signed are also grouped together. I feel like you really can never have too many books. They are my escape from reality and the swoon worthy ones are my favorite!!

message 32: by 2kasmom (new)

2kasmom | 6 comments I agree! We have a lot in common. Make that contemporary and lots of sports romance, with an emphasis (especially) on hockey and yes!

message 33: by Annie (new)

Annie Holm (bookaholicandkindle) | 1 comments I have very little shelf space for my books...not because hubby won't make me some but there's just nowhere to put them. On the few I do have my books are organised by author. In front of the books you'll find the stuff we're trying to keep out of our 3 yo's reach.

message 34: by Teagan (new)

Teagan Hunter (teaganhunter) | 3 comments At last count, I have over 700 paperbacks. *hides* I used to work at a bookstore...don't judge my addiction!

I currently only have two bookshelves, so a lot of my books are sitting in boxes (from our move last year). My plan is to get at least two more shelves and get more books ups.

I DO decorate my shelves with more than just books. For example, I have a Colleen Hoover shelf that has a few gnomes and butterflies on it. A Harry Potter shelf that contains journals, necklaces, and Funko Pops.

Oh and I organize mine alphabetically by author, series order, and then standalones (A-Z).

message 35: by Megan (new)

Megan Green | 5 comments I have two built in bookshelves around my fireplace downstairs. They're so pretty and they make me happy every time I look at them. Only problem...they're already full! I have nowhere to put the books I just picked up last weekend. And with LoveNVegas coming up in October and Book Bonanza next year...I'm gonna need a bigger house!

message 36: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Copple (letstalkaboutitreviews) | 3 comments I have a 8ft by 6 ft bookshelves that my husband custom built for me . This one is filled top to bottom with all of my favorites , that I wI'll go back to time and time again . Then in my basement I have another custom built one the is 8ft tall by about 3 ft wide that is filled with all.my other books . They are just as important to me just won't read them as often . Then my kids have a reading nook with a custom built bookshelves that they are filling with their favorites . I love my bookshelves.

I agree Sara! I want to lie in her bed and just stare.
FYI, the first time I visited Tami's her bookcases were in the living room and I wanted to steal ALL the books!
