Pretty much everything Tolkien said about trees (and Ents) in The Lord of the Rings ... might be absolutely right, and then some. Below is a link to a recent episode of NPR's On Point with Tom Ashbrook; they even use a clip from The Two Towers (though they don't use it to full effect).
