My version of book shame usually happens when I HATE a book or book series that everyone else on Earth seems to love dearly. Example: I hated the Hunger Games series - read all 3 books and never figured out what I was missing the "everyone" else raved about.

Classic books I also hated: Wuthering Heights, East of Eden, Gone With The Wind.

Paul Perry (pezski) | 17 comments I don't think i have much in the way of book shame - I'm sure I've pretended to read I book I haven't when I was much younger, but so long ago i don't remember :)

Likewise, I've never suffered from shame at not reading the classics; I absorbed the idea early on that it was fine to ignore the classics until you were older anyway, and then realised that the literature / genre snobbishness was rubbish. It does mean that I've a lot of catching up to do, and sometimes I've missed the right age to read something - f'rinstance, I read The Catcher in the Rye in my late thirties and absolutely hated it, but I've been told you really need to read it at fifteen, which makes sense.

I do worry a bit I'm not reading enough, but try not to let it bother me too much.

If I may grin absurdly for a moment, I was delighted to hear my email about my son's signed Terry Pratchett books read on this ep :D

I suspect I would've even at that age, so it's good to feel vindicated :)
