Rae I'd rate the book a 3.5/5. The first half was incredibly boring as we were given an immense amount of backstories. However, the second half improved a lot. Suspense increased, the plot was actually forming, and you began to feel affection wards the characters.

Personally, I find Isa pretty selfish, as she prioritizes some things over other's. An example would be her friends over Owen, though it's understandable because she was in a nightmare where she needed them; where all of them understood her situation, because they were walking through the nightmare as well. A proper example would be when she kissed Luc without guilt. Owen was on her mind, she knew what she was doing was wrong, but she still did it. It doesn't matter if she loves Luc, or if she and Owen were mad at each other, what she did was still wrong and she was betraying the trust of her lover. Not only did Isa betray Owen, but kissing Luc also created a misunderstanding between her and Kate. She prioritized Luc over more important things.

I'd say Thea is my favorite character. Behind the violently strong women she appears to be, she's actually vulnerable on the inside, and it's incredibly obvious that she cares for her friends. She's weak when it comes to protecting those she loves. In other words, she's fierce yet warm.

What are your thoughts on this book? Overall, I think it's pretty good, I shed a few tears reading it.

Jerel I liked the book but felt their friendship was too strong.
They were only friends for one summer when they were 15! Now at 30 they have this unbreakable bond even though they have not talked in all that time. I know they were involved in a dramatic event but it still seemed very odd, they were going on like they have been friends for life. Friends for one summer at age 15 means nothing in the greater scheme of life after college, marriage and kids. Especially if you have not talked since then.
I must say I did enjoy the book though.

Apologies for the late reply.

I actually never focused on that point, but now that I think about it, I somewhat agree with you.

In my personal opinion, I think the dramatic event is what really built up their friendship. During that moment, they really needed to rely on one another, as well as being able to trust each other. Trust and reliability are critical roles in a friendship, and that's what all four girls depended on.

Robert I didn't like the way they dropped everything for their psycho friend they hadn't seen in 17 years. Isa destroying her marriage out of misplaced guilt. The Lying Game was a teenage thing, not something to play your whole life. If you can get past the bad decisions it's a half decent story.

Shayna I was disappointed in this book because I really liked In a Dark, Dark Wood and The Woman in Cabin 10 and The Lying Game was not as good as the others. All of the suspense that built up wasn't justified to me. Also, I agree that it was weird how all the girls dropped everything to be with their friend that they haven't seen in 17 years. They had careers and family's, it's just unlikely that people would just drop everything to be with a friend from high school.

Lori Michael Johnson I read this about a month ago. I really enjoy Ruth Ware. I like the Lying Game and though I agree it took a long time to build it up, it was satisfying because I understood the characters better. I think the intense bond came from burying the Father. I don't remember that Isa and Owen were married. I thought they were partners and it wasn't really going to work anyway. I enjoyed this book, but I got a little more involved with the characters than I did in Mrs Westaway and The Woman In Cabin 10. Whatever I thought of each book, they certainly ARE page turners. Can't wait to read In A Dark Dark Wood.

Susan I didn't like any of the characters, and, unfortunately disliked the baby as well. Also, I kept waiting for Mark to show up and investigate. Why even make him a detective, if he never even makes an appearance. I like the way Ms. Ware writes, but not the story.

Thomas i really liked this one in fact if I didn't hate present tense it would be my favourite of hers

phez 5/5 for me. I loved this book. I love this author. Cannot wait to read It Girl. Not every psychologial thriller/suspense book can be amazing. It's so hard to write books that are like that. B.A. Paris-- the book "Breakdown". WOW. I literally yelled and gasped. Gotta love those books. It doesn't happen everytime. But authors like her and Ruth Ware need some room to not be amazing everytime, but most of their books are just thrilling and fantastic. "Behind Closed Doors" by B.A. Paris-- check that out too. If you like Ruth Ware, you might like Lexie Elliot, Liz Nugent.
