Let's discuss some of our GREAT books for July. This month we are talking about September Ends, Matched & Rowena's Key...

what did you think of the characters?
Plot?
What parts had you hooked, what left you aching for more?

Lola Karns | 12 comments I started with Matched. After the first chapter, I wasn't too crazy about Cassia as a character, but the story world intrigued me. She seemed weak in the same way as Ariel from the movie version of The Little Mermaid. I've warmed to her a lot and already put the second book on hold at the library.

Christoph Fischer | 40 comments I've only read September Ends. I am not a big fan of poetry but I liked the poems in September Ends. What do the poetry fans of the group feel?
And overall of the patchwork concept? I ama big fan of a playful and original narrative but many readers prefer a more linear approach. I wonder what you thought of that in September Ends.

Christoph Fischer | 40 comments So an overwhelming YES for the poetry.
What do people think of using diaries and letters in a book to support the narrative?

In my latest novel, the main female character keeps a journal. I think it's a very effective way to be in the characters head. So far the ARC reviewers have been loving it. There are letters and notes as well.

Amalie Jahn (theclaylion) | 2 comments Just read September Ends. The story line was great and I really loved the portions that were written as emails. Fun to read!

Jennifer Theriot | 2 comments I positively LOVED this book! I felt as though I was back in the 60's with my love beads on in the basement of a quaint, smoke filled, hip coffee house with bongos softly being played in the background listening to some groovy seductive poetry...Yep! I loved it!

Sounds great Blakely. I am glad it's not just me who likes an original narrative. Hope your book does well :-)

Christoph Fischer | 40 comments I am glad you agree. I wonder what she's going to do with September First, the planned prequel. I love it when trilogies are not strictly sequential.
I liked the artistic style of the book.

Chris Rose (chrisrose14) | 1 comments I have to agree with Amalie, the email parts are brilliant.

Lovely poetry!

I really like when diaries and letters are used. Really makes the characters feel real. September Ends uses them brilliantly.

message 17: by Hunter (new)

Hunter Jones (huntersjones) | 7 comments Thank you all for voting for September Ends and reading it. I am delighted that you enjoyed it! If you have questions, please let you know. All the best! xo

Christoph Fischer | 40 comments How did you meet the anonymous poet? - if you can tell us, that is without compromising the source. I am fascinated by the collaboration

message 19: by Hunter (new)

Hunter Jones (huntersjones) | 7 comments He is a member of ASMSG. We read each other's books & developed a mutual respect for the other's style. When I found out last year that my mom had cancer, he emailed "You should write another book" to which I responded "Why don't you write one with me? You write the poetry & I'll write the prose." And that is exactly how it happened. Thank you for asking.
