We are doing Thriller fiction soon so we need nominations for the poll. Let us know what book you are suggesting.

I nominate The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth, The following is from Wikipedia. It is "a thriller novel about a professional assassin who is contracted by the OAS, a French dissident paramilitary organization, to kill Charles de Gaulle, the President of France. The OAS did exist as described in the novel, and the book opens with an accurate depiction of the attempt on the life of President de Gaulle led by Jean-Marie Bastien-Thiry, but the subsequent plot is fiction."

Janet, ironically, I'm currently reading The Day of the Jackal. Pretty good so far.

I'll nominate A Simple Plan. I saw the film years ago and thought it was pretty suspenseful, so I think it would make a good nominee. Not sure if that is enough of a sell.

Nice one, it sounds like a great book I'd like to read no matter if it wins or not.

I'll nominate Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. A psychological thriller told from two competing perspectives, husband and wife.

I will nominate The Alienist by Caleb Carr. It is set in 1896 and this is part of Goodreads description: "Fast-paced and gripping, infused with a historian's exactitude, The Alienist conjures up the Gilded Age and its untarnished underside: verminous tenements and opulent mansions, corrupt cops and flamboyant gangsters, shining opera houses and seamy gin mills. Here is a New York during an age when questioning society's belief that all killers are born, not made, could have unexpected and mortal consequences."

I like that it is set in another era.

Since no one else is nominating books for this poll, I'll make a nomination. I would like to nominate Gorky Park by Martin Cruz Smith. It has been sitting on my bookshelf for far too long and I need an excuse to read it

I'll nominate In the Woods. I've heard lots of good things about this author and series and it seems to fit in to this category nicely.

I'd like to nominate Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith - it's won several awards since it's release and read some amazing reviews about this book. Described as a grim, tragic thriller.

I know we already read a Le Carré this year, but I'd like to nominate A Most Wanted Man. The story is set in Hamburg and involves banks, civil rights and, of course, spionage. Written in 2008, it is a post 9/11 take on the spionage/thriller genre. It has been adapted to film lately (coming out this summer/autumn).
