Finally! The days are getting shorter, there is a faint chill in the air and things go bump in the night. The best month of year is just around the corner and it's time for our October Group Read.
This month the theme is, of course, HALLOWEEN. Send a chill up our spines and nominate books that have something to do with the best holiday of the year, the creepier the better.
edited to add: The story should take place on or around Halloween and have a reference to the holiday. (hope this helps)

Books that have been read by our group in the past 12 months are not eligible. As always, books with more nominations (seconds, thirds, etc.) have a greater chance of making it into the final poll. ***Authors, please no self-promoting here.***

Nominations close on Monday Sept 18.

Charlotte (screamqueenwannabe) | 32 comments Idk if this has been read by the group before. So please forgive me.

Lady by Thomas Tryon

It looks interesting. I haven't read it myself, but I'd be pleased if we did.

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments The Halloween Man by Douglas Clegg?

I have a copy of it but haven't read it yet. I see it on amazon kindle, but it's 10 dollars! I found my copy on thrift books for a few bucks.

We have a list up here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
that shows the previous reads for at least the last year. Hope this helps.

Also, in looking up Lady, I'm not sure what it has to do with Halloween. I'm looking for books that either take place on Halloween or have some reference to Halloween. I apologize for not making that clear.

The Ritual

The first one's a haunted house story and the second is supposed to be a movie real soon."

I love The Ritual, but I don't remember it having anything to do with Halloween, unless I've already forgotten that detail:-).

Kelly B (kellybey) | 630 comments I'll third The Halloween Children. Bonus for those of us watching our wallets, it's only $2.99 on Kindle.

The Halloween Children sounds interesting. I'll fifth it, lol.

We Came Back isn't a bad nomination either, pretty decent read.

message 20: by Maxine (new)

Maxine (Booklover Catlady) (booklovercatlady) | 42 comments I nominate Gods of the Nowhere: A Novel of Halloween by James Tipper. This one has Irish Druid flavour and is fitting the Halloween theme. 🙀

message 21: by Nate (new)

Nate (the_enobee) | 147 comments I know it's not released until October, but the Valancourt Book of Horror stories volume 2 would be perfect. The Valancourt Book of Horror Stories Volume Two by James D. Jenkins

The opening story is a Bernard Taylor yarn about Samhain, and the Michael McDowell story takes place on Halloween. Not to mention the rest so far are top notch ghost stories (about halfway through now).

Amanda B (azobac) | 6 comments How about The Gates (Samuel Johnson, #1) by John Connolly by John Connolly
It's set around a boy that goes trick or treating and discovers some nasty stuff happening. Might be something to check out.
Personally, I'll also be reading Night of the Living Trekkies by Kevin David Anderson by Kevin David Anderson just because it involves people dressing up. It looks pretty funny.

Melissa (melissa52572) | 79 comments I just bought The Halloween Children this morning and I have The Gates in my audio library. I nominate those two.
