Very sorry Sofia, but we can't accept that one because it was first published in 1995. It is a great book though. You are welcome to try again!

Oops! I meant Family Matters by Rohinton Mistry.

Carol (carolfromnc) | 459 comments @marc and hugh, you're very welcome. We (certainly me) read relatively few Canadian authors and it seemed likely to feed the soul and drive good discussions as the weather turns cold..

Thanks Sofia - that one is fine, and might appeal to anyone who is participating in the 2002 Booker shortlist read over at The Mookse and the Gripes - we have a few members in common.

I've heard nothing but good things about Mistry. Thanks for the nomination and welcome to the group, Sofia!

Doug | 1 comments I'd like to nominate Sweetland by Michael Crummey. I first read it when it came out two years ago and gave it a 5 star, one-word review: 'Perfection'. Am currently reading some of his short stories, and would like to revisit the novel.

It feels like a Canadian theme is slowly emerging here--thanks, Doug! 5-star books are always welcome.

Thanks, Ami!

Tonight is the last night for nominations. The poll will go up tomorrow.

LindaJ^ (lindajs) | 2548 comments I have 2 of the already nominated books in my possession so will not be nominating. I will just have to decide between The Betrayers and Sweetland when it comes time to vote!

Would you like to lead the discussion, Doug?

Ooops -- I neglected to vote. But it would not have mattered, just made the tally closer.
