Meriç | 3 comments I'm trying to find a book I read as a kid. I tried googling and searched through all the ballet book threads in this group but couldn't find it.
I must have read it between 1998-2001.

This girl who was around 11 was accepted a ballet school. She had to move away from her family. The book was mainly set at the school, mainly her first year but also stories from following years as well. I think there was a Russian ballet dancer that they were trying to impress.

One thing I am sure that her little brother dies in a cycling accident and her parents want her to drop school and come back home. I remember thinking its a sad story.

I don't think it was a part of a series.

Some books I came across searching were:
- On pointe - plot reminds me this book but dates don't match.
- Dancer (Maggie Adams) seems close but couldn't find anything about a brother.
-Satin Slippers - #1 To Be A Dancer trying to find more info

Kelly (khek) | 270 comments Come a Stranger, by Cynthia Voigt? I don't remember a younger brother, but it's definitely got the difficult times at ballet school.

Meriç | 3 comments Thanks a lot for the replies!
I had a look on Come a Stranger, sorry I don't think that's the one for couple of reasons. Also I'm sure it wasn't a ballet camp but she was constantly in school for several years.

I'm sure it was set in a big city (could be New York but not sure), book was starting with her move to the school from a small town. I don't think anything specific about the date.

For the cover...I really think it was only pink ballet pointe shoes but that also think that might be the first image comes to my brain when I think about ballet.

I'll have a look at Alphabet City Ballet and post back :)

Meriç, are you still looking for this or did you find it?

Meriç | 3 comments It's been a while since I posted this. Thanks a lot for all the suggestions. Yesterday all of a sudden I remembered the publishing company. And finally figured it that it is Sarahs Traum by Brigitte Blobel.

I thought it was set in New York so was mainly looking at American books but turns out it's set in Germany.
There is not much about the book online but I used google translate to translate the info about the Czech version and it matches perfectly.
I also remembered the original cover.
And I was wrong about it not being a part of the series.
