Let's just get this one out of the way. Dan and Lucy...was there ever a romance? Were they really just good friends or was some part of it an unrequited love on either of their parts?

I'm not sure; maybe they were each other's second choice, but not acted on [because of first choices}. What do the rest of you think?

I never felt the chemistry between them, so it didn't bother me that they ended up with different people.

As Charlene says, they weren't each others' first choice, so there was nowhere for the relationship to go.

I thought Dan was all in for Lucy, until reading this book and getting a truer sense of his feelings for her. Like the song says "If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with." Dan liked Lucy better than a one night, short term relationship, and he may have even fooled himself that he was in love to the point of getting his nose out of joint when Jack came back, but it was never going to be a forever thing for either of them and Lucy knew that from the beginning.

I just never got the vibe that these two were into each other that way. Everyone else at Bullet Catchers assumed there was more but all I sensed was a strong friendship based on trust. Jack reappearing in the picture threatened that friendship and Dan didn’t trust him as a Bullet Catcher nor as a lover to Lucy.

It was good to know that Dan didn’t walk away in a jealous huff.

In the previous book I thought Dan was very jealous of Jack and Lucy's relationship. I thought it was unrequited love with his best friend Lucy. I liked finding out I was wrong about Dan's feelings for Lucy. Made this book much better.

Me either. I think that the other Bullet Catchers were making assumptions that had no basis in reality. Dan cared about Lucy as a friend and thought that Jack was wrong for her not because he wanted her himself.
