Alonso (El Viejo) Jimenez is devastated when he learns Quinn isn't his grandson and enraged when he realizes Maggie betrayed them to the FBI and wants to inflict serious hurt upon her. What did you think of his methods in those final scenes?

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments His methods of self torture over torturing Quinn didn't make sense to me. He's an evil drug lord desperate to hold on to power not a pussycat.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 849 comments I thought the same. It really didn't make any sense that he would harm himself instead of Quinn to make Maggie suffer. But suffer she did. Quinn did to having to watch him.

He was dying of cancer and put all his energy into passing his legacy on to his "grandson." He transferred all that energy to rage against Maggie when he discovered Quinn wasn’t Ramon’s and she’d betrayed them. It wasn’t about killing himself but making Maggie believe he was killing her son. Then, making that child kill him would scar Quinn’s soul for life. It was absolutely diabolical. When it all fell apart, he was not going back to jail to die.

I agree that it would have scarred Quinn for life, but I just couldn't El Viejo being that sophisticated in his thinking. His characterization suggested he was more of a kill now than make people suffer in the future (at least this is how he is presented in relations to his men).

I found him to be calculating and an in-the-moment nightmare. He was just cruel to the core. Look at how awful he was to Lourdes, scarring her for life and putting a contract out on Ramon.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 849 comments Definitely not Father of the Year material.

Yes, in the moment is a good description, which is why I didn't get his self-mutilation as a means of hurting Quinn. Nevertheless, he was a great diabolical villain.

Definitely not!
