Authors, especially small press and independent authors, often find it necessary to give away review copies of their books in order to get word-of-mouth advertising going. (Traditional publishers have long utilized the same practice!) But it's often hard for authors to know who might be receptive to such an offer. And potential reviewers may have some uneasiness about contacting authors directly and asking for a free book (after all, considering that authors get income from selling their books, such a request can come across as something like asking a grocer to give you free food!).
One of my other groups has a thread where potential reviewers who may be open to getting review copies can identify themselves, and allow authors to sound them out (preferably off-thread). So, I thought a similar thread here might fill a function. If you're a member of this group possibly interested in getting some review copies at times, I'd invite you to post here. Be sure to specify what types of books you're interested in (or not interested in) and note if you have a blog or other venue besides Goodreads where you review. (I'd recommend saving contact information for off-thread messages.)
I'll start the ball rolling. I sometimes review books on the Girls With Guns website, hosted by our fellow group member Jim McLennan (see message 1 on this thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... ). Both action heroines who use guns and those who use other weapons (or bare hands) are covered; but I don't review either heterosexual or homosexual erotica, and prefer not to read material with a lot of gratuitous profanity. While paper is my preferred format, I'll read in Kindle or Mobi electronic format if necessary. If you have a book you think you might like to have reviewed there (and on Goodreads and Amazon), personal message me, and we'll explore the idea! (Note: I have two paper books in the reviewing queue already; and I don't read in electronic format as much or as regularly as I do in paper!)
