Si (siliang) | 1 comments I am a Tolkien fan, and I started this startup with my friend Michael in the NYC Area Friends of JRR Tolkien & Fantasy group. Although this is not completely relevant to Tolkien, but I figured I should tell other Tolkien fans first when we are telling other people about our startup.

I'd like to tell you about our startup called Ratafire for creative people such as artists and researchers. Like Kick Starter, it supports creative endeavors, but is aimed at a wider community under a longer term model, and projects don’t depend upon reaching a monetary goal before they start.

Creators and developers who are working on art, music or coding projects, for example, can create an account on the site and define their current project and goals. Anyone with an interest, whether they want to create their own projects, collaborate with other creators, or find new work or research they are interested in, can also sign up. Once a project has begun, the creator can invite subscribers under a pricing policy with a range of monthly support fees. The creator then posts frequent updates that appear on the subscriber’s main feed. This allows the artist to receive ongoing support while subscribers are able to watch the progress of the projects they have selected.

The idea behind Ratafire is to build an open community of people who understand how the best and most innovative work can grow in an open environment where ideas can be shared and developed to their full potential. To learn more about Ratafire, its guidelines, content policy, and pricing model, please visit www.ratafire.com.
