Hey everyone! I consider it my bookish duty to let everyone in the group know that Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon is Saturday, October 21! It's a milestone because it's the 10-year anniversary of this awesome event. I've been participating a few years now and I love it. I enjoy creating mini-challenges from time to time, but this year I'm moderating/hosting Hour 17 on the Goodreads Dewey's thread. I'm excited!

How do I find the Goodreads threads? Do I sign up somewhere? I have never done this and I am all in. :)

Awesome, I'm going to try it this year. Of course there's no physical way I'll be able to stay up all night, getting too old for that, lol. But I plan to enjoy a very long day of reading! :-)

So I didn't do it officially but I read for about 10 hours in total. I managed to read nearly all of The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. I did read till I fell asleep, though. I had about 150 pages left which I finished on Sunday.
I hope everyone else who read officially or not enjoyed it.

Yep, same here. My body can't stay up for 24 hours, period. :oD I did read most of the day, though, and it was delightful! Looking forward to it in October!!

Is it 24 hours from ex. 8 am til 8 am the next day - or is i actual reading hours?
I follow some booktubers and there seems to different ways of doing these readalongs.

Oh you know what...I just found out that I would have to start at 02.00 and finish at 01.59 in the night..yaikes- I guess theres the answer to my question.

[Disclaimer: I probably won't be doing the official Readathon, and if do I won't be starting at 8 am! Also, I am not speaking for Dewey, so y'all feel free to correct me.]

For the true spirit of the Read-a-thon, I think it's supposed to start at 8 am the scheduled calendar day, and end 8 am the following day. I think 24 October 2020 is the next scheduled date.

But I suppose any 24-hour period near or around the official day is fine. Start at 2 am, high noon, or 6:30 pm, or whatever time if you want. Not all of us are Daywalkers.

And it's not like we're all in the same time zone on this planet, so who will know the difference?

Or if life/work dictates that you need to start sometime before the official day and read in bits, up to 24 hours total over a day or three, we won't tell anyone.

Just know that you might miss out on 24 continuous, glorious hours of being free to ignore all non-reading activities, which tend to be silly anyway (you know: paying bills, vacuuming, social media, Candy Crush, personal hygiene, children, spouses, etc.).

There is a start time link in one of the questions, so feel free to check it out. So, yes, it's basically reading as much as you can in a 24 hour time period. I just read as much as I can while I'm awake. I'm getting too old to be able to stay up for a full 24 hrs. It's not good for me, health-wise, so I just read while I'm awake. 😁😉

This sounds like a wonderful excuse to be able to sit all day and do nothing but read. How fantastic. I must tell my husband and mark myself out on the calendar! I doubt I can do 24 hours though either, not without ending up feeling ill and getting a migraine! I may do a 12 hour on the Saturday and again Sunday. I shall see.
