Hi guys,

a separate thread to ask for your general opinions on this. My wise double headed compadre MOD has pointed out a potential area for improvement;

Last BOTM, we had a single thread discussing Ken Doggett's Ship of Storms as we went along. Obviously everyone reads at different speeds and has different real life commitments (not the least of which is writing your own book, for some of us!) This left us in a bit of a quandary. How to have an effective discussion without spoilifying those coming up behind. I think a lot of us were reluctant to really get into a discussion in case we inadvertently gave the game away for those still reading.

Now since we have a good number of authors here whose book have been put forward, and since it is considered a politeness (at the very least) for those authors to participate in the discussions (well why wouldn't you? It's a chance to talk about your work, egage with your readers and answer questions) it's a bit of a waste if the discussion threads don't get used to their full potential. Not everyone was comfortable putting in the < spoiler > text or just adding a spoiler warning.

How do we want to play this? Would a thread for discussion for people who have read the book and a separate thread for those ho are currently reading work for you guys? Anyone have any suggestions?

Bear in mind that I've opened BOTM up this time and there will be three books on the go.

Let me know what you guys want and I'll set it up ;)

Cheers,

Jules

In other groups I've seen two threads for a book, one with just the book's title, and a second one with "spoilers" right after the title. It seems to work.

I think this is a great idea - though truthfully, this is the first of this type of group I've been involved in....

I'm happy to do two threads - one titled and one with the title and spoilers if people think this is a good idea? Certainly would help if readers didn't feel they needed to watch what they were saying and potential spoilers were separate. In theory are the authors willing to be involved on both threads if their book wins the polls?

Hákon Gunnarsson | 283 comments I think the two threads would be a good way to do this.

Thanks for the input everyone. Two thread set up for each book adopted. We'll see how it goes :)
