I'm amazed how ridiculous this book is.

Pipim Do you mean to seriously tell me that after all that Tom has gone through in this series, he couldn't give a 15yr old one reason for keeping his daughter out of public eye. We are talking about a man who not only had his childhood taken away from him but was looked upon with disdain throughout his entire life at court. While that little prick of a prince hop from boat to boat going to extravagant parties, Tom had already assassinated men, been beaten to the brink of death twice by Regal and Galen by that age. What father in their right mind would want their child to go through such a horrible life, used as a tool and discarded at anytime his so called king and masters feel like. I'm sure the writer was trying to make the kid look regal but that is just terrible writing/plot. Very disappointed in this series. At this point there's very little action and all drama. I honestly cant think of a reason the last two books in this series should be rated higher than a 3.

Joanna Choi I think that's the continuing problem that I've always had with this series, and the one before, and the new one that's released soon. Tom, or Fitz, just can't stick up for himself. He's been used his entire life, he realizes that he's been used, realizes that he doesn't want that for his children, but then lets them be used anyway. I've read Fool's Assassin, btw, and Fitz never grows up. Dutiful ends up being well, a spoiled boy who is led by his little brain. Not to say that he plays around or anything, but we have another future leader who doesn't put the kingdom and his duties before his personal life. And his personal life seems to be all about keeping his Narcheska happy. Seems, he should have been named Whipped instead of Dutiful.
