Audiobooks discussion

Aurelia here. In honor of Halloween next week, I thought I thought it'd be fun to collect everyone's favorite scary audiobook and/or author. Let's include kid's audiobooks, as well, for those who want suggestions about how to be terrified with the youngsters in the family. We're emphasizing audiobooks, not books, so if the book is terrifying but the audio is schlock, no fair submitting it.

I'll start. I'm easily scared, so I don't have many to suggest. But given AudioFile's rave review (http://bit.ly/2zxBNXW ) I did listen to STRANGE WEATHER by Joe Hill (sometimes with my eyes closed as if that would protect me), and once I recovered, I thought it was great.

How fun! I'm easily scared, too and am going to try Strange Weather. I have no suggestions yet because I've chickened out pretty early on! And good narrators, please!

I think my favourite horror on audio was It. I really enjoyed the narration, though I can't remember who the narrator was.

MissSusie, dare I admit that I never read anything by Shirley Jackson other than THE LOTTERY? Thank you for knowing of an audio version of another piece of her writing.

I too was a late comer to Shirley Jackson but I have enjoyed all her books, this one is my favorite plus you can never go wrong with Bernadette Dunne narrating!

I don't know if it's going to be the scariest ever, but it does involve a ghost and a true 19th century murder, which seems right for Halloween. And it won an Earphones Award for Candace Thaxton and Roger Casey.

I wanted a scary listen for Halloween, so I chose Hell House by Richard Matheson, narrated by Ray Porter. Unfortunately, I only made it through about an hour and a half and couldn't stand it any longer. It wasn't scary, just stupid, in my opinion. I haven't returned very many books to Audible, but I return this one.

That made me laugh, Rick B! (This is Aurelia) Even though I'm easily scared, stupid is way worse than scary.

I've been dealing with a leaking roof in our very old family manse for the last couple of days. Scary in its own panic-making way. Anyone have a scary audiobook about water in all the wrong places?

An excellent suggestion! I LOVED that book, and have been disappointed that it has had nearly no buzz. VERY scary!

I've just release the audio version of Treaters, my post-apocalyptic survival horror. I know I'm a little late for Halloween(even though the book kicks off on Halloween night), but I hope it's okay to share here.
