I will second Wolf Hall!
I nominate Sacred Hunger, 1992 winner.

I nominate The Conservationist by Nadine Gordimer (winner 1974) and I second The Sea, the Sea and Possession.

My second second is The Gathering ( I didn't like it first time round so a second chance is in order :) )

I’ll second Paddy Clarke! Doyle has a new book out SMILE that I also want to read!

If Paddy Clarke isn't chosen this time, I'll just read it on my own. Doyle captures a youngster's life (or any topic) with much humor.
My first "second" is for Vernon God Little.

I second The Famished Road (I'm dying to read this!) and Life of Pi (absolutely loved this the first time round)

I nominate Sacred Hunger..."
Sacred Hunger broke my heart and I cannot got there again. It was an amazing book, but too much suffering for me.

I have wanted to read Possession for awhile and the other day I listened to an interview with A.S. Byatt that peaked my interest again. I also want to read Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha so I'll be happy either way. If with most of the books nominated, actually.

So, the only other one that I own already is the one that I will support. It has already been nominated and seconded, so I will 3rd The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje.
I would also like to second (or 3rd or 4th) the Life of Pi. Thanks! --Jen from Quebec :0)

Now that the Man Booker Prize 2017 winner has been announced and we have a few months until the International prize longlist is announced (February/March 2018), it's time to return to reading the backlist of books from the Man Booker Prize winning list.
When the Man Booker & International Prizes are not underway, we read books that have previously won the award.
In the past we have read the following:
-The Luminaries
-The Line of Beauty
-The Blind Assassin
-The God of Small Things
-The Narrow Road to the Deep North
-A Brief History of Seven Killings (2015 winner)
-The Sellout (2016 winner)
-The Sense of an Ending
-Hotel du Lac
-Midnight's Children
-The Remains of the Day
-Lincoln in the Bardo (2017 winner)
So when you nominate a read for November below, please do NOT include any of those. Thanks.
Anyway, as usual the rules follow:
1. Every member may nominate 1 previous winner excluding the ones above that we've read previously
2. Every member may second (or upvote) 2 other nominations by other members.
So for example, I might nominate The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes. Another member could nominate Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel and then upvote my nomination. So my pick would have 2 votes and theirs would have 1, etc. I hope that makes sense. If you're confused, just pay attention to what other people are doing and it should start to make sense.
Also, please DO NOT nominate a book if you see someone has already nominated it in this thread. If I nominate The Sense of an Ending, you can't nominate it also. Please just 'second' it so that I can add a tally to keep track of how many people are interested. You can choose not to nominate something else if you really want to read The Sense of an Ending, etc. But don't use your nomination on something that I or someone else just nominated.
NOMINATIONS CLOSE ON October 31, 2016 at midnight! I know this is kind of a quick turnaround (I did this last year too, oops! It just sneaks up on me). But next month I will try and be more organized. Forgive me :D
Sorry for the long post but it's been a while since we've done this and I know a lot of new people have joined. As always, feel free to message me if you have any questions.
Let's get nominating!
