I'm looking forward to Rachel Joyce's new book The Music Shop (expected publication January 2).

I almost never read recent books- my backlist is so long that it seems unfair for some books to cut in line. A book I'm hoping will be released is The Monster Baru Cormorant. Goodreads says the expected publication is sometime in 2018, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Elsewise, I'll just have to keep an ear to the ground and see what picks up buzz.

In Conclusion, Don't Worry About It Is what I'll be reading!

I read Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls, and Everything in Between by Lauren Graham and I loved it. Plus I'm a HUGE Gilmore Girls fan :)
I am busy catching up on everything I've missed the last 10 years x_x So normally I don't read newer books unless it's an author I LOVE.

I will definitely end up using a Book of the Month Club choice on this prompt, because nearly all of my new release reads are from them.

But, in the spirit of planning, I found a few new releases to add to my TBR, and if I get around to them, yay!

Be the Hands and Feet: Living Out God's Love for All His Children

I read a few series, so there are always books published in the new year I end up reading. For this prompt I always read the latest book out in the Mischief Bay series. Sisters Like Us is the new book coming out. I was fortunate enough to receive an arc from Netgalley.

I have several options for this one:

Grist Mill Road by Christopher J. Yates (releases today - 01/09)
The Outsider by Stephen King
The Librarians and the Pot of Gold by Greg Cox
BRAVE by Rose McGowan

After I settle on one, I can probably parse the other books on this list out to other categories.

I’m waiting to see if Lethal White by Robert Galbraith is published this year. I liked the first book in the series best and although I was less impressed with the two most recent books I’m still looking forward to reading this.

I'll probably changed my mind 826,913 times but right now the 2018 publication that's at the top of the list is Circe by Madeline Miller. I swear I've checked for a new book by her like monthly ever since I read The Song of Achilles.....in 2012!

I had an ARC from LibraryThing so I needed to get it read.

Do you usually try to read very recent books?

Nope. I read 9 new releases last year and that seemed like a lot to me. I'm always behind on my TBR so I never usually get to new releases in a timely manner.

Oooo I didn't know it had a name already. How exciting!

I'm using this book kind of like a free read. It's the only book I didn't plan out for the year. I try to read a lot of new releases, so I'll probably just end up counting the first nonfiction new release that I read.

I loved Me before you and After me. I cried at the first one.

I just finished The Immortalists and really enjoyed it. I found the main characters all unique and interesting.

I had found it last year looking for ideas for this prompt and it caught my eye. So I got it from BOTM club for my January pick
Do you usually try to read very recent books?
I generally do not. I just read whatever happens to catch my eye at the time.

The Woman in the Window by The Woman in the Window. I was skeptical about this one as it's one of those "if you liked Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train..." books. I loathed Gone Girl and didn't care for TGotT either. This was much better.

1) People kept referencing Hitchcock when referring to this book and I'm a fan
2) I'd had it on hold at the library and it became available

Sometimes - depends on the author or the plot.

why did you choose this book?
She is on my 'list' of authors who I like and I read all books as they publish! I think I still have one or two of hers I need to read, but I've read almost everything of hers so far.

do you usually try to read very recent books?
If it's a standalone or a continuation of a series I am reading (although I generally stick to my rule of no series unless it's fully published). I also have my list of authors of which I will read everything they publish as soon as it's published. She is one of them.

There are of course always exceptions any time a book catches my eye or I hear everyone raving about it.

I was gifted it from the author as a reward for reviewing the previous book. This is the 6th in the series.

I read In Search of Mary Shelley: The Girl Who Wrote Frankenstein by Fiona Sampson. I hadn't expected to be reading anything for this category so early in the year but having chosen Mary Shelley's Frankenstein for week 7 (a gothic novel) I heard a couple of extracts from this biography of Mary Shelley on the radio (BBC Radio 4) which has been published this year as it's the 200th anniversary of the first edition of Frankenstein. I was intrigued and got hold of a copy. I think I enjoyed reading about Mary Shelley more than I enjoyed reading her Frankenstein.

Why did you choose this book?

Her debut novel The Dry was one of my favorite reads last year. I was excited to read the next in the series.

I don't usually pick my books based on publication dates but I like to read books people are talking about so I read a good number of recent books.

It was on a book of books to watch out for in 2018, and my library let me request it before it was out and get on the waiting list.

- Do you usually try to read very recent books?
I don't go out of my way to read new books, unless they're from an author I follow. But if i see a lot of people recommending them, or I see them mentioned in book recommendation lists, and they look good, I will try to see if I can get them from the library.

I’m reading The Wolves of Winter by Tyrell Johnson. Someone had recommended it for a group read in another GR group. It didn't win but sounded good so I put a hold on it at the library and it came in today. So, I’m dropping everything else to read it! I usually only read new books if they catch my eye at the library or I win a copy. I never buy them any more - too expensive!

I went with The Night Masquerade, the third and last book in the Binti series. Very creative, fresh take on sci-fi. Three short books. Highly recommend the series.

I don’t normally read new fiction, unless it is a series I am already reading. This one was that. I like to read books that I will enjoy, and very new fiction is often a miss. However, I prefer my nonfiction off the press. With nonfiction, the biggest decider is its topic, not so much writing style or literary genius, and I love to see the latest ideas/research.

I picked The Château by Paul Goldberg for this week, chosen for its' zany plot and setting described as, "life in Trump's America". I also couldn't resist that cover.

I read very recent books if they are by an author I love, reviews are decent and if they're easily available.

- Why did you choose this book? The concept kind of intrigued me but I don't think it is going to help my impending doom that I deal with. It doesn't help either that it starts out in 1969 when I was born. I think it will be interesting though and hopefully a different kind of story line than I usually read.

Why did you choose this book?
It was recommended by All the Books, and the concept intrigued me, so I put it on hold via Libby.

Do you usually try to read very recent books?
I don't really try to, but I do like keeping up with new releases when they're either debuts that intrigue me, or from authors whose works I've enjoyed in the past. Sometimes it's fun to pick up something shiny and new and then dig into it right away. :)

I chose this book for this category because I was so excited to read it that I pre-ordered it. I love this author, and *almost* everything she has ever written

I read The 1000 Year Old Boy for this one having picked it up in the library. I didn't realise it was published this year until after I'd finished it, but hey it qualifies.

I do like to own new books, but my TBR list is friggen huge so...yeah, doesn't always happen as I try to make a dent in the books bought in previous years.

Why did you choose this book?
It’s about the author’s love of reading as a child. As soon as I read the blurb it brought back so many happy memories of my own childhood favourite books that I knew I’d have to read it.

Not really. I would like to, but I often get discouraged by long waiting lists at the library for new releases, or the fact that they’re often quite expensive to buy.

- Why did you choose this book?
It was chosen by one of my groups as a book read. I love the time period (American Civil War) and Charles Frazier as well. Cold Mountain being on my favorites list. And, finally, it was on-sale at Amazon for $1.99.

Unfortunately, I operate on a limited budget, so I tend to get to books a little late unless I can get on the library waiting list in time to allow me to read them the year they are published. Still, there are so many good books out there that I haven't read, it isn't really a problem, is it.

I've never read anything by Colleen Hoover and I've heard a lot of great things about her books. This book in particular has a lot of good reviews so I'm excited to pick it up.

Not really. The only time I ever really wonder about the publication date of a book is if I want to complete a reading challenge where the publication date has to be considered.
