NaNo Los Angeles discussion

For those of us world building, how do you approach world building? What do you think of the way Amanda has built a world within a world? What do you bring in? Leave out? What stays the same?

I think Amanda did a good job at world building but I would have liked to have a few more answers. Perhaps she was relying on this being a trilogy, but as a standalone book, there were very few questions answered and very little exploration of the town since everything took place in Elora's house.
