"Yes, God King, Son of Ra," said the High Priest, bowing so low his high headdress almost brushed the floor.
The divine royal nose sniffed.
"Is that...it...I can smell?"
The High Priest motioned, and an acolyte swung his pot of glowing myrrh more energetically. Some nearby courtiers coughed.
"It isn't quite what I imagined."
"It has been delivered unto you from many miles away, across the burning wastes beyond the Nile. It is the Gift of the Gods".
Pharaoh stared, drumming his fingers on his throne.
"And how exactly does it share this Gift?"
"Through the Kiss of the Gods."
"The Kiss of the Gods? I have to kiss it?"
"Err... Not quite. I believe it has to bite you."
"Not on your life."
The High Priest snapped his fingers, and a priest thrust a spear right through the chest of the chained creature. The thing hardly reacted.
"You see, oh Pharaoh? Completely unharmed."
Pharaoh's eyes glittered. "Where does it have to bite me?"
The High Priest smiled, though it never reached his eyes. "Wherever Pharaoh desires..."
I am looking for some readers who would be interested in reviewing my latest zombie monster mashup, Freaks and Greeks (think '300' meets 'The Walking Dead').
I enjoy the whole 'what if' nature of retelling historical events with a fictitious angle - in this case, a terrible plague that returns the dead from the afterlife.
Plus, zombies make a great metaphor - in this case, for the infectious nature of power...
Here is the blurb from the back of the book:
......
KNOW THYSELF…
490BC: One small city in Ancient Greece is in the midst of a revolution. A unique idea has taken hold: that power should be held not by kings, not by the wealthy, but by the ordinary citizens themselves.
They call it demoskratia.
But it may soon be swept away, before it has a chance to take hold.
For a plague is spreading across the ancient world… A sickness that brings the dead back from the afterlife. And when they return, they are hungry.
The Egyptian pharaohs unleashed it in their greed for immortality.
The Persian kings spread it in their hunger for empire.
Now it will fall to one man, Miltiades of Athens, to rise above the clash of class and race, and his own self-doubt, to keep this small flame of freedom alive. But he must be careful: power is infectious.
The forces are gathering. The final battle is set to begin.
A desperate race for survival…
At Marathon.

I am offering 6 epub versions, and would like reviews to appear on Goodreads, Amazon and anywhere else you like to post to. All reviews should include this: "I received this book from the author for an honest review." to keep things on the up and up.
Looking forward to hearing from you - I will need an email address to send the epub to.
