Amélia (cruelleironie) | 21 comments Just finished it! I really liked all the stories, and I generally don't when it comes to Christie's short stories books I usually am very neutral about several stories. It definitely is quite high in my list of her books, I hope you'll all enjoy it ! :)

I just finished the story Three Blind Mice and realize that it is the basis for the play The Mousetrap. I like the clever ending, since there were a few false clues there.
The play had more than one ending, so the audience didn't who would be the murderer that night. Otherwise it would not have been such a long-running and succesful play.
I am going to read all the stories in the book.

Kathy E | 2342 comments I finished the book yesterday and really enjoyed the stories. I liked trying to figure out what twist Christie could come up with in each story.

I am enjoying the stories too. It is nice to see Miss Marple in some of them. She doesn't miss a thing.

Catherine Habbie I too prefer her short stories especially those on Poirot's grey cells. Does he appear in any of these?

Catherine Habbie His Adventures of the Christmas Pudding would be perfect next month.

Kathy E | 2342 comments Poirot is in 3 of the stories: The Third Floor Flat, The Adventure of Johnnie Waverly, and Four and Twenty Blackbirds.

Yes - & this book has very limited availability in the U.K. for the same reason. I can't find a Kindle version at all, & the paperback is almost £10, dearer than modern best-sellers. Apparently the book was banned altogether for years.

Your welcome Trisha!
Hate for you to miss out!

Tr1sha | 1043 comments I read this today. Although I'm glad I read it, I found it disappointing. Perhaps the number of tv dramas based on her books made me expect too much, or perhaps the stories were more dated than I remembered from her other books. I agree with Catherine that the stories involving Poirot were my favourites, especially the Third Floor Flat (which I think has been dramatised as part of the Poirot series).

Kathy E | 2342 comments I also especially enjoyed The Third Floor Flat. Poirot was his typical self. But, I tend to like the Marple stories better than Poirot.

message 29: by Catherine (last edited Nov 14, 2017 06:02AM) (new)

Catherine Habbie The short stories win hands down over the novels in each case as they seem more concise. The longer books seem to drag along when we can sometimes predict the outcome in a few pages itself. No offence to die-hard fans.

I finally got finished last night before I fell asleep.

No Miss Marple and no Poirot.

Wow, I did not expect the ending at all! Had me guessing all along and changing my mind more often than I would like to admit.
Christie is a true writer of mystery. I always think I can figure it out!

I hope I can finish the other short stories included soon.

The other stories are shorter, and you will meet Miss Marple, Hercule Poirot and the mysterious Mr. Quin as well.

Heard of the other two Rosemarie but not Quin?

Really enjoyable read. I have ordered another of her books, I liked this one so much.

A Holiday for Murder I know its way out of order but I thought it fitting for the Christmas Holiday.

Quin appears in a couple of novels. It is the last story in the book, so I hope you get a chance to read them all, Lesle.
And our other group members too!

It was a nice change of pace from the Classics we normally read. I agree I think everyone should at least try and read a short from Christie!

I agree with you 100% Lesle. I like to think of her novels as dessert.
