The piano tuner is here so that brings today's question ...

Wednesday, Nov 1: Do you play a musical instrument?

message 2: by ilikeboox (new)

ilikeboox | 242 comments Well that's a matter of opinion. I am a VERY beginner piano player.

I played flute for 7 years in middle and high school but that was a long time ago. So probably can't say I play anymore lol.

I took piano lessons for all of my school years, and even for a couple of years as an adult. But frankly, I hardly ever play the piano now. Still, I do get it tuned every year! I've had the same piano tuner since about 1980 ... he retired this year, and moved back to Hungary. Now his son has taken over the business.

Thursday, Nov 2: Have you finished raking all your leaves?

The "leaf vacuum" truck is here, making a huge racket, which prompted today's question. In our community you pile your leaves at the curb and the village sends around this huge dump truck with a powerful vacuum on it that sucks up those piles of leaves. Alternately, people can "bag" the leaves in paper sacks and a different crew will come around and collect those. We're on a heavily wooded lot, so we rake (or leaf-blow) a LOT of leaves. I think today's vacuuming is the third pile so far this season, and we still have trees with leaves on them, so we'll have more. The village truck will keep coming around until the snow flies.

I do not rake. My yard is small and I have no trees directly near it. Not much to worry about.

The plus of apartment living - not my problem lol.

message 8: by ilikeboox (new)

ilikeboox | 242 comments I love to rake leaves and we have LOTS of them. We are not near finished raking because they are still falling. But we just rake them into the wooded area of our lot so we don't have to worry about bagging or putting them to the curb to be vacuumed up.

We actually DO rake/blow some of the leaves into the wooded area at the back of the lot, or use them to help "mulch" plants over the winter. But the front yard leaves go to the curb.

We have 3 acres and lots of trees so we put that thingy behind the lawn mower or wait until we get a strong wind and they blow into the neighbors yard. LOL!

It's a store brand but it's like Honey Bunches of Oats.

Oatmeal - the old-fashioned kind. But I'm too lazy to stand at the stove and cook it, so I have it only at the occasional restaurant. I make do with Cheerios (or store-brand equivalent).

Tuesday Nov 7 ... Do you have a birdfeeder and/or bird bath?

We had to break the ice on our birdbath this morning ... it's freezing overnight, but gets up to around 40 during the day, so we like to keep water in it while the birds are still around. We do *not* heat it (though I know some people do that with theirs).

We used to have several feeders, and I really enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table, looking out at the gardens and the birds. But we started getting so many weeds due to spilled seed that we finally gave up on the feeders. I *do* still occasionally put out some suet in the winter, but that's about it.

Sorry I've been missing in action. Been quite sick.

Used to have a birdfeeder but the people in the apartment below us complained and we had to take it down :-(

Yes. I'm an avid birder. Usually have several feeders but right now only have 1 due to squirrels wrecking them.

We have one that sits outside out kitchen window. I like to watch the birds as I do dishes.

I do and I am near-sighted. I'll probably end up with bi-focals the next time I go to the eye doctor.

Koren (koren56) | 768 comments Leah wrote: "November 8, Wednesday: Do you have to wear prescription glasses? If so, are you near or far-sighted?"

I've worn glasses since I was 16 and am very near sighted.

Leah wrote: "November 8, Wednesday: Do you have to wear prescription glasses? If so, are you near or far-sighted?"

I've worn prescription glasses since I was in kindergarten (and probably needed them before that). I'm nearsighted in one eye, and far-sighted in the other. I've been using bifocals since my late 30s. I have terrible astigmatism as well. My eyes don't work together, and the "signal" from my right eye is just "ignored" by my brain, resulting in no depth perception. Interestingly enough (and scary, too), the last time I had to have a vision check for my driver's license renewal I was told I do *not* need glasses for driving! (The dominant left eye is the far-sighted one.) I still wear them, though. I'd feel naked without them.

I never used to take naps, but in the past 5 years or so I find myself taking a 15-20 minute nap a couple of times a week.

Thursday, Nov 23 .... It's Thanksgiving in the USA .. did you cook/host? Did you go somewhere else?

Hubby and I went to a local restaurant. Pre-fixe menu with turkey (both white and dark meat), stuffing, sweet potatoes, salad, and dessert. I asked about a vegetable and we ordered an additional side dish of roasted brussels sprouts. Had significant leftovers to bring home as well. No dishes!
