Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments Nice challenge sweety! And nice titles too!
Good luck 😘

I see you have also included next in series as "to be counted". Wise choice! :D Temptation to buy will be too great otherwise. But don't count the gifts either. Especially with Christmas coming up. 😊

Thanks huni! 😘 I think I might up the buying ban to 5 books before I can buy one. I thought 5 seemed quite high, but now 3 seems too low! What do you think?

Ooh an even number! I'd never even considered it 😂 I think I'll do it!! Haha.

message 12: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments Stick with the 3 at first as you already have the "earn the borrowed ones clause". I think you'll find it very difficult to resist if you up the mark. I know I am. :D
I have just ordered the 4th book in the Wayfarer series because it is the paperback with the amazing cover art and it was on sale (for just 2 bucks) so now I have to hurry up and read the 5 before it arrives. :) Though job. :))

message 13: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8702 comments What a bargain though! You can just fill in the purchased bit of the log then catch up on reading before you buy anything else! That'll help for books that it would be plain wrong to not buy.

I copied and pasted the whole thing from your initial post and just deleted the explanations, so it's technically your organisation! XD thanks Niki!

This would be so good for you Charlotte! I particularly like the bit about focusing on oldest and newest books. Get on it!! :)

I'm too much of a spontaneous reader for this to work for me I think. I quite often put things on the pile next to my bed intending for that to be my to read pile for the month but then I don't read any of them. I'm definitely more of a 'whatever I fancy in the moment' kind of reader.

message 20: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8702 comments Well you could at least pledge to read however many of your owned books before buying a new one? :p

message 21: by Charlie (new)

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments Siobhan wrote: "Well you could at least pledge to read however many of your owned books before buying a new one? :p"

I absolutely should do that, alas, I have virtually zero self control!

I could maybe make that pledge if that meant only not buying physical books, at full price, that are new. I couldn't agree not to buy things on ebook, or from second hand bookshops, or charity shops, or crazy cheap online deals, or borrow books from the library! You see, I can't do it.

The universe clearly wants me to buy all the books and who I am to deny the powers of the universe?!

message 22: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8702 comments Haha OK, OK, we'll just write you off as a lost cause 😂 😂

message 23: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8702 comments I'm not including ebooks like, I figure they're not a problem because they don't take up any physical space!

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments Siobhan wrote: "I'm not including ebooks like, I figure they're not a problem because they don't take up any physical space!"

That's excellent reasoning! I can buy as many as I like and they don't have to sit in my house. Lets go look at ebooks...

I do the same thing! I am doing this challenge. I just make my spontaneous reading come from what I own. It just may not be from the stack that is beside my bed!

I find I'm good at planning as long as it's buddy reads, because I hate to let people down and they motivate me.

I used to put a pile on my bedside table that I thought I would read next but like Charlie I would always end up back at my bookshelves looking. Now I just pile up the month's buddy reads.

I like to have room between for a random book too though, don't like how fully booked I am this month!

I try not to book more than half my monthly reads ahead of time... leave room for spontaneity or reading breaks... I plan a lot more since joining this group and all it's buddy reads... otherwise I'm more like Charlie... finish a book, pick the next...

I always intend to leave half the month free, but this buddy reads grow and I can't resist :'(

Solution: Read more... osmosis is key... sleep on a book

I usually do this too but I'm also terrible for putting books down and starting something else before I finish them, so I really don't help myself!

Thanks hun! I've been good so far because it's nearly Xmas and my family have put me on a buying ban in case I get something they've bought. But just wait until I go to a book shop to buy that one book I've earned... I can't guarantee I won't buy 10! :'(

On a side note, help me here, if I trade a load of books into a store and get credit to buy more books (making them free), that doesn't count right??

I know. This is where is where I always go wrong, lol. It's like eating just one potato chip.

"On a side note, help me here, if I trade a load of books into a store and get credit to buy more books (making them free), that doesn't count right?? "

I'd say it doesn't count but, then again, I love to enable my fellow book addicts. :-) In all honesty though, I'd say that free books or gift books shouldn't count.
