Hmmmm! It's gonna be fun to read all of your answers. Let's get them coming...

Selfish power: Instantly learning all languages in the world. It would indeed lose some of that fun that comes from learning a foreign language, but on the other hand, I cannot even begin to imagine the joy of becoming a living Babel fish...and the potential!

Responsible power: Being able to easily award microcredits / loans to women in developing countries, so that they can feel empowered to truly own at least a little part of their fate by creating their own business.

Arnaud B. | 119 comments For me, it would be :

Responsible power : creating school to teach feminism.

Personnal therapy power : switching gender when i want. Because, woman fashion attracts me so much.

Completely stalking bad silly power: teleport everywhere Emma is. :D :D xD

message 4: by cyn (new)

cyn (vronskies) | 16 comments Communication: It would just be great to know exactly what to say and when to say it, and to be witty, inspiring, and humorous without thought and effort

Apparition/Teleportation: I would love to visit schools in Africa and other We Schools around the world.

message 5: by Ash (new)

Ash (goodreadscomashna_gulati2609) | 205 comments Happy power:the power to always remain happy no matter what where and when. Also to make all the others happy everywhere.

Responsible power:The power to counter question the decissions ,the world leaders make in the name of benefit to the people and an additional ability to scorch them if it is of greater monetary benefit to themselves.

Funny power:To be able to travel everywhere without getting tired and eating every dish in the world without getting fat. XD XD

message 6: by MeerderWörter (new)

MeerderWörter | 2388 comments Responsible power:
To be able to speak endangered languages or extinct languages, like Massachusett, Shawnee, Potawatomi and Powhatan, in order to help that these languages do not become extinct, and in order to revive them. Power to Algonqiuan languages! (And any other Indigenous languages for that matter)

Silly power: To not have to sleep at all... all-nighters, here I come:)

message 7: by Prachi (new)

Prachi Pati | 35 comments Wow this is such a fun subject ! Actually a favourite topic of conversation among my friends since the time x men and Harry Potter arrived in our lives😊

Selfish power: Being a wizard, like Hermoine or Gandalf

Responsible power: create fuel from all the plastic and electronic waste we're generating so I can save our beautiful planet without destroying the beautiful beings living in it 😊

This was so cute. <3 Seriously.

Wear the freaking rainbow all at once if you wanna.

That's that inclusion you've been working on ahaha.

Selfish power: Mind Control or Teleportation. Telekinesis would be fun but the other two are way more practical/able to be abused

Responsible Power: Culture Shock. I'd love to be ambassador people into other cultures. I truly believe that there is a basis by which we are all human and amazing and all the hate and ignorance would be greatly reduced if we all travelled into another culture with open minds. If I could magically take small groups of people into other places and have everyone have a meal and a couple drinks over a couple days, I could make lasting change to the perceptions of people. Make them less ignorant. More loving.

Or something with like, taking care of kids. Educating them.

Or suck CO2 and methane out of the atmosphere because jesus, we're about to choke ourselves to death.

Great question!

message 10: by Stella (new)

Stella | 0 comments Hmmm...I've had this discussion before with my kids while reading comic books.

I'd like the ability to be invisible. As a shy introvert, sometimes I want to be with people without the exhaustion of being seen and having to interact. Make sense?

I'd also really like the power of a green thumb. Think Poison Ivy, but with good growing things like fruits and veggies, not the poisonous plants.

This is fun!

message 11: by Anais (new)

Anais Selfish:
Power over time. I could go back or forward in history (centuries or minutes), reverse or fast-forward my or other's physical age, and stop time.

Selfless:

The power to undo environmental destruction.

message 12: by Gerd (new)

Gerd | 428 comments Invisibilty: 'twould be handy, not having to face people anymore...

Time-travel sounds great, too, tho.
I'd be jumping back and forth between falling in love for the first time and visiting Dinos, for the rest of my natural life. Well, visiting Dinos might shorten my natural life extremely, I guess.

Responsible Power: Courage.

message 13: by Ross (last edited Nov 14, 2017 01:00PM) (new)

Ross | 1444 comments the power of invisibility, cheat death and to have the most powerful talisman in the world...no wait

message 14: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 193 comments I would love teleportation - not have the hassle of travel time and long-distancing anything.

For a more responsible power, I'd want the ability to heal physical and psychological pains and maladies.

message 15: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Lovegreen (lynn_lovegreen) Same as Meelie's, my special powers would be teleportation and providing food and water for people who need it. :-)

message 16: by Robert (new)

Robert Smart | 359 comments I think that I would double my selfish power and responsible power as one and the same. I think to have Wolverines regeneration properties would be cool. Not only just for the sake of havng that power but also to be able to be around to help with the advancement of equality all the way to it's fruition.

message 17: by Robert (last edited Nov 15, 2017 08:34AM) (new)

Robert (robertwkessler) | 62 comments Given only one option, I would chose the power of imbuing empathy and consideration in order to help people better understand how their actions and words affect others. -Think the "Point of View Gun" from the movie version of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, only elevated so someone might also have a broader understanding of systemic consequences.

Given two super-powers, I would join the ranks of the teleporters.
Visit a friend overseas? - Poof!
Have lunch with my grandparents back home? - Poof!
Want to live in the country but work/study in the city? - Poof!
Want to go sky-diving? - Poof! You're at 15k feet!

Given a third, time travel would be pretty excellent... but let's not go crazy here.

message 18: by Phoebe (new)

Phoebe | 54 comments I would love to have the powers like the Harry Potter powers or the ability to talk to animals. I don’t know I would just love to know what my animals are saying or thinking. Healing powers would be a nice one too

message 19: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Wiedmeyer My silly power would be flight: I've always wanted to fly. Or teleport so scientists are less likely to dissect me.

Responsible power: always be healthy. In mind and body so I never have to pay for meds or doctor or dentist bills. Save a lot of money.

message 20: by Laure (last edited Nov 15, 2017 11:26PM) (new)

Laure I love this thread! I think this question is a really nice one to get to know someone better. And with all the movies and series about superheroes/heroes with superpowers, we have tons of examples at hand :-)

The superpower I'd like the most to have is super-strength. Jessica Jones-style... or like the Hulk. I get to use X-ray for work and I often joke with my colleagues that if something goes wrong with my experiments, they shouldn't anger me or I'll become green and full of muscles... :-)) The power would help me in my daily life or allow me to help in emergency situations. Just great.

If I'd need to think of a more selfless power, I'd go for a "Shield", to become a kind of Guardian. I would be able to protect anyone from physical danger.

But I could also go with X-Men Rogue's power... just absorb any of yours :-D

message 21: by Robert (new)

Robert (robertwkessler) | 62 comments Laure wrote: "...I could also go with X-Men Rogue's power... just absorb any of yours :-D "

I'd be happy to Rogue-esque share my powers if I had any of note. However, at present you would only absorb my super-human ability to recall useless but interesting trivia and make corny jokes. :-P

-Agreed regarding the excellence of this thread. Nice one Meelie!

message 23: by Griselda (new)

Griselda (graygal) Silly Power: The ability to be invisible when I chose to (clothes and all).

Responsible Power: To heal (including uncurable diseases).

Actually, since reading The Power and reading that she was able to manipulate people, I would want to have Brain Reading Powers. Not necessarily mind reading...but brain reading. So I can study what your brain is doing and if so, do that myself. It's like imitating your power, but instead of it being limited, I can do it forever if I just visualize the stimulus.

message 24: by Anne Elisabeth (new)

Anne Elisabeth (anneelisabeth) | 89 comments I'd want my responsible power to be able to be kind and compassionate to all people.
So many people struggle in their everyday life, and if I could provide a little comfort to them, that would be wonderful.

My selfish power would to telekinetics, because then I could direct things to clean themselves up. I don't like cleaning and really don't like doing dishes :)

This topic is super cool ! : )
I really like to read your answers !

For me :

Silly power : Be able to fly without any gear (like birds in sum) to see the world from above and avoid traffic jams when I go to work. ; )

Responsible power : Spread peace and love everywhere and make all people happy to live.

I'm (like you ?) an INFJ personality type so if I could choose another power in addition of those I listed, I think it was the first power you chose, the power of invisibility.

I am going to be a bit picky, I am sorry :p

Make everyone happy to live, I got the meaning of course but I do not want to be happy all the time. I want to be sad or unhappy so that I can feel happyness :)
I guess that my statement is to be happy I need to know what being unhappy is. Consequently, I need to feel unhappyness or even sadness.

*Picky behaviour off*

Personality type... hum... it may change a lot. I was definitely I now I am E ^^

I know now you're a picky person and I've no problem with that. ; )

So, be serious now. : )

I understand your point of view but I think all depends of your past and actual life.

From my point of view, I lived hard things in my past and I can say I know what's pain and sadness. That's why, if someone had given me the possibility to be happy all the time by the peace and love, I'd have accepted without any hesitation.

In a more global view, I think there is a majority of the world population which is in pain and sadness everyday so I think their choice would be the same as me.

If we have no problems, personality is something we have for life.

Yes I understand. Just like you mentioned, it depends on what your experiences are.

Because it is not related with the topic I'll answer you by private message :) (I triggered that discussion on that thread, my bad).

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

Silly power:

Responsible power: I was thinking about removing violence/hate from the world but I choose: Create harmony.

This is more difficult than I expected especially for the Silly power.

message 31: by Pablo (new)

Pablo (pablobi) | 8 comments Encyclopedic knowledge and the ability to use it.

Someone gets in an accident? Needs immediate surgery? All you have is a rope? You know what to do.
Need to speak Norwegian? Sure.
Need to negotiate between two really difficult people? Master level Negotiation tactics here they come
Dad, can you help me with my homework? Yup.

message 32: by Deila (new)

Deila | 2 comments This forum was a great/funny read. Good idea.

Silly power: telepathic abilities, mainly for moving stuff without touching it.

Responsible power: healing, the ability to help set the body right in as natural a way as possible would be amazing.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

I maybe be wrong but telepathy is the ability to read the mind of someone else or to speak in her/his head (Ex: Prof. Charles Xavier). I think you wanted to say telekinesis :)
