Through the whole book, I was worried about the modern flu that Kivrin brought into the past. Yes, there were some strong assertions that diseases didn't transfer, but I was convinced that the plot would go that way.
Initially I thought that Kivrin was going to wipe out the contemps, but no.
Then towards the end when it was revealed that the source of the flu was the dig, I thought that when Dunworthy went back that he would die in the past, get buried in the tomb along with the flu so that it would be dug up in the future. Nope.
