::Imagine Kermit the Frog doing his happy dance::

Yes, you read that headline right! There are some new Targets on their way and you can read about it at this link: http://www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/201...

Davies will adapt Rose, the very first episode of the revived Doctor Who, which aired in 2005 and introduced the world to Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler and Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor. Meanwhile, frequent Who novelist Colgan is penning the novelisation for Davies’ 2005 festive special The Christmas Invasion, the first full outing for Tennant’s popular Tenth Doctor which saw the Time Lord face off against the Sycorax.

Following on from this, Moffat is set to adapt one of his own episodes – 2013 50th anniversary spectacular The Day of the Doctor, which united Tennant and Matt Smith’s Doctors with John Hurt’s previously-unseen War Doctor.

And old series hand Cornell, who wrote Doctor Who episodes Father’s Day, Human Nature and the Family of Blood (the latter two-parter based on his own 1995 tie-in novel Human Nature) as well as numerous novels and other spin-off media based on the series, will adapt upcoming Christmas episode Twice Upon a Time, which airs this December and serves as both Moffat and Peter Capaldi’s Doctor Who swansong.

All four titles will be released on the 2nd April 2018, and short summaries of each (recovered from Penguin’s Australian website and confirmed as genuine by RadioTimes.com)...

Tony | 33 comments Great news, plenty of new series stories that could use a little flesh on the bones. The End of Time would be good & Hell Bent

Daniel | 1 comments Hi Lori, Simon Bucher-Jones's book about The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit is part of the 'Black Archive' series, book-length discussions of Doctor Who stories, not a novelisation. See this for information about the 'Black Archive' series.

I've heard good things about the series, but haven't read any yet.

Travis (travishiltz) | 2399 comments Am I the only one bothered that some of these new targets are 200 and 250 pages long?

I remember the old Targets, where 150 pages was an epic.

Has me worried, especially with Moffatt and Davies involved, that there will be overly cute added bits.

I really enjoyed Moffat's Day of the Doctor. The set up is different from the TV story, but he makes it work and he gets to show off his love of the series and that, deep down, he's a Whovian still.

Travis (travishiltz) | 2399 comments I'm happy they are doing them, but right out of the gate they are doing stuff that feels off, so it concerns me.

The War Games was two hundred pages.
Marco Polo was about 150.
But, the new episodes need more...?

Some of the best Targets were the ones which didn't follow the script too strictly. The Day of the Doctor is one of those which doesn't follow the script at all, in part because I don't think it would work for starters. What works on TV doesn't always work in books and vice-versa and this is definitely one of those times.

That's not to say that the script is completely junked, mind you, just that it gets reworked to deal with the amount of time a book can convey that might be jumped in a TV show (for instance, during the negotiations between UNIT Kate and Zygon Kate - which we see happens in a matter of moments but in real time took up to ten hours during which (view spoiler) happened.)
They looked at me, defiant. They each held a magic wand in their hand and now proffered them for my inspection. I fought down a sigh and tried to look impressed. I even smiled, approving, but still the wands were being held out.

Then, as I turned my attention back to their magic wands, I noticed something. They weren’t magic wands at all! In fact, I was looking at a pair of sonic screwdrivers. The implications of that took a few seconds to unravel in my brain. It is fair to say that in those seconds, for the first time in a very long and often difficult life, I understood why people carried hip flasks.

I scanned their faces for any trace of dignity, of wisdom, or any of those qualities I flattered myself I had displayed throughout my lives. Nothing stared back at me, except perfectly modulated vacuity. It was like watching television! I steeled myself, and spoke the necessary, yet preposterous, words. ‘You … are me?’

That said, John Peel's rewrite of Doctor Who: The Power of the Daleks should have been incinerated upon arrival. Zzzzzzzzzz.

Travis (travishiltz) | 2399 comments Got the New Target version of Rose and it was pretty solid.
Enough good that I forgive the bits where Russell got too cute and self-indulgent.

Definitely going to track down more and curious to see if they keep it going and we get all of new Who adapted.
