Explain to me what happened

I am probably stupid to not get it, but what happened to Alina's powers?

Were they not hers to start with?

What did it mean when they said there was a new group of summonses now?

Was Ruby supposed to have summoning powers too?

Why did Mal lose his tracking ability?

Morozova's amplifiers were not what the Darkling thought. The Darkling thought they simply made a certain power stronger. But Morozova's idea of amplifying was to make that power stronger by not keeping it within a single person - by using the amplifiers to take it out of one person (alina) and give it to all non-grisha people. Alina was never strong enough to get rid of the fold on her own but when everyone gained her power, they became powerful when they combined that power and could push back the fold. In effect, everyone got Alina's powers and that multiplied the strength of the sun summoning.

There were two parts of Mal - the human and the inheritance from his ancestor (Morozova's non grisha daughter). The inheritance was the life that Moroza stole from heaven in order to reanimate his dead daughter. That was passed down to her children - with Mal receiving that supernatural force (and that force, which is life, is what gave him the ability to sense life and 'track' it wherever it was). That life force left him, leaving him temporarily dead, but then his human side was left and he lived, though without that supernatural ability any more.

after mal died, after completing the 3 amp. everything went to its limit , the end of everything , causing for alina to lose her powers as well as mal's .. its like a fireworks ignited then exploded so those around alina up to near places dont know how far , got her powers . sorry if im a little messy explaining this to you. ;)

Ok thanks!

Did you read the book? I don't want to give anything away that you don't want to hear?

Mal was part of the blood line. Morozova's daughter didn't have powers but when he brought her back to life he used to much magic that she had something powerful in her that was passed down through generations all the way to Mal. Alina killing Mal and using him as the third amplifier changed everyone to have powers but it took Alina's and Mal's away.

Did anyone else think that a part of Mal dying then him coming back to life was totally Harry Potter-esque?

Temporally.

So Alina lost her powers only temporarily? She got them back in the end, along with Mal reviving?

BASICALLY, in the end sun soldiers get alina's powers and she ends up without them. You can see later in Rule of wolves that the Sun Soldiers are summoners of sun.

SPOILERS! DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED THE BOOK.

I feel like Mal and Alina were so cool with Alina's powers and Mal's tracking skills, but without them, they are just a plain old couple running an orphanage.

Wait mal died?
