Jacqueline | 1 comments I've seen a lot of reddit posts praising this book to the skies. I've gotten some good book recommendations over there, but something about the descriptions of SUPER GRITTY REALISM makes me think The Road will leave me wishing to club people with a feminist clue-by-four.

So has anyone read it? Should I give it a try, or steer clear?

anklecemetery | 2 comments I've read it! It's very gritty indeed, and it's interesting, but judging from your Favorites shelf, it might not be your favorite. (Cormac McCarthy is one of those primarily male Western authors who explores human depravity, usually without punctuation.) I just finished "Days Without End," which, while also a Western and lacking in a lot of standard punctuation, might be more Toast-friendly.

I will note that having a vague familiarity with Cormac McCarthy makes some literary satire REALLY FUNNY, and "The Road" has less truly upsetting content than some of his other books. If you're going to try one McCarthy novel, this is the most approachable.
