She Is Not Invisible by Marcus Sedgwick

Puck | 15 comments I'll read this! I've been thinking of reading something by Sedgwick, and since I saw that my library has a copy of this book, I think next year will be the perfect time to check this out :)

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) I started this today.

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) The novel takes about three hours to read. I think it is for fourth or fifth graders, not young adults or teens. It is a mystery which does succeed in holding one's attention and I enjoyed it, but honestly, the thing about coincidences and patterns did not compute for me as much as it did for Laureth or her dad. To me, all of that was like filler to expand the book into a novel of 218 pages, which would have been only, maybe, 100 pages long without the internal dramas of trying to link 354 to every scene in the book. Especially since 354 ended up having almost no plot attachment to what turned out to be an ordinary kid's sleuthing story like the Hardy Boys, only for protected kids. Maybe fourth graders, then.

Hoping to finish my current read in the next couple days and to start this one :) However, I'm nervous that I won't like it after what you said...

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) Well, I am an older, ahem, 'mature' person, so this does change perceptions on books.

It is a well written. But to me, it was missing coherence.

Thank you, Mariah! I am looking forward to seeing your opinion!

Zoe Pearlman | 6 comments Day 1: I just started today and I've only read the first 50 pages. I'm not really sure how I feel about the book so far. The style of writing is very different from the last few books I've read. The author appears to make no effort to sound eloquent, most likely because the protagonist herself is very young. In my opinion, the writing style isn't very enticing, but others may find it to be genius and praise Sedgwick for his ability to portray the viewpoints of such a young character.

Zoe Pearlman | 6 comments Day 2: I enjoyed today's reading more than yesterday. It was particularly amusing when everyone's systems crashed and they started freaking out. This is so typical of the Google generation. I loved Sam's response, "There are these amazing things called books," he said. "Never need winding. Maybe these guys should try reading" (101).

I am only halfway through this book... It definitely drags. I don't have a desire to pick the book up.

Haha that is very true! The book wasn't phenomenal, so it took me much longer than it should have to finish it!
