Stephanie is assisted by Suah, a young but wizened 15-year old Sierra Leone boy whose life Joe spared during the last op in the country. Suah has a strange code of honor where he feels the need to repay his debt to Joe. Do you think it was more than that?

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments Not only did Suah want to repay Joe for helping him the last time he was in the country, but I think he looked up to him as his hero. I loved this part of the story. This kid was 15 and more or less the leader of a bunch of teenager rebels. I was so happy that he got to come to the US to live with Joe and Stephanie.

Ditto everything you said, Robin. Suah never had anyone do anything for him so Joe’s action in letting him live was a new experience. It was more than repaying a debt given he waited outside that jail for weeks.

I was thrilled at how his story evolved.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 849 comments I think there was a touch of hero worship too. He was so much help. Without him and his band, Joe and Stephanie would probably not have survived. I'm also glad he got to come to America.
